Lust by Emma Hart

I don’t know why, but I didn’t think I was going to super love this book. I knew I was going to like it, I really love Emma’s writing style and she has a fabulous sense of humor. But for some reason, I thought this book wasn’t going to be over the top awesome, I think it was pair up of prostitute and detective on the anti-prostitute task force, it seemed so opposite it was almost cliche. But as I read I really, really liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The characters in the book are so much deeper than the one line career description lets on, and they had a lot of moments that really pulled out the emotional stops. Perrie, if you read the previous book in the series, is Damien Fox’s sister, estranged sister. She comes from super, mega money, but was basically banished to the outside when she turned up pregnant. So she’s a single mom of a 7 year old, Lola, she lives in a not so nice neighborhood, and she has sex for money. I think what sets her apart from the idea of what a prostitute is going to be like, is how she really is just a normal mom, who wants to put food on the table, and make her kid live in a world that’s as good as she came make it. It’s pointed out many times in the book how her house looks like it doesn’t […]

SIN by Emma Hart

First off, I kind of new this book was going to be awesome, because from just the blurb you knew you had too characters at odds with each other, it’s set in Vegas (land of fun times), and honestly, it’s Emma Hart, so you can’t go wrong. I have to say right up front that the banter between our main characters just made the book so fantastic, it made for a great, fun read. The banter reminded me a lot of the banter you saw in Holly Woods Files, it was sometimes funny, always amusing, charged with sexual tension, occasionally heartwarming, basically my cup of tea. Dahlia is our oh so lovely heroine, and when we meet her she is just back Vegas after losing her father. It’s time for her to go back to running the family business, a bar in Las Vegas that is book themed. Can we just stop right there are make unbelievably clear that if this bar existed near me I would be there all the time. I have to say that Emma did a great job with painting a picture of what the bar looks like, I mean I felt like I could picture the bar in my head, and it is just such a cool idea. I liked Dahlia a lot, she’s smart, well educated, clearly a good boss, seems like she was a good daughter, and she’s got the perfect amount of sassy and sarcasm, I liked how she held her own. […]

Mixed Up by Emma Hart

I love all things Emma Hart, and this book is really just a totally fun and enjoyable journey. I felt like this book is really just all about a good time. Normally when I read a book where it involves the best friends little sister it always seems to have more than a little bit of angst or at the very least a couple of tears to be shed, but this book is way more about the laughs and some serious tension. Raven and Parker have basically grown up together and for whatever reason have just never gotten along. There’s not traumatic event in their past that made them hate each other, they just never really meshed. And apparently it has resulted in years and years of snarky comments and constantly being separated by their families. Of course when the book starts these two haven’t seen each other in years, and Raven is in a tough spot with her bar, she wants a chef so her bar isn’t just about drinks but she can’t seem to find anyone qualified enough to make her plan work. Her basic nightmare scenario of having to get the world renowned chef slash personal nemesis Parker to step in and help her out is quickly becoming her reality. These two are super fun to read. They are both really sarcastic and love to push each other’s buttons, and while it starts out as kind of a openly hostile dynamic, the sexual tension starts to amp […]

Catching Carly by Emma Hart

As always, Emma Hart makes me laugh out loud, and sometimes inappropriately. I really liked Brooke’s book, mostly because I love the whole friends to lovers thing, but also because Brooke and Carly have an awesome dynamic and quirky yet perfect senses of humor. So it was easy to really want to get to know Carly on a more personal level. Carly and Zeke are both introduced in Brooke’s book, and they both are awesome characters in that book because they have a great kind of antagonistic yet laced with tons of chemistry dynamic. The great part about this book is that they already had a drunken hook up, so by the time we meet up with Carly and Zeke again they already know they can set the sheets on fire, so the angst in this book is big time. Carly is super funny, she has that great sense of humor. But honestly, what I loved about Carly (and Emma for including this), is that she is a little left out. Her two best friends have gotten together, and like most people in the beginnings of a new relationship, they neglect their other relationships, and Carly is really feeling that right now. I felt for her, and it made it super relatable too, I mean who hasn’t had a friend disappear down the rabbit hole of a new relationship. She’s also really looking for a connection, and her online dating is hilarious (I mean seriously I’ve never been more happy […]

Distracted by Her by Caitlyn Blue

I got this book quite some time ago, and I read it a while ago too, I just forgot to write a review, so I reread it and it held up pretty well the second time around. I tend to really like revenge plots, they are just so juicy with drama. Plus this one had the added in fake relationship, and you just know fake relationships always turn into something more. The book is pretty fast paced, it was a quick read both times which is just what I was looking for. This book definitely has some serious complications that could have made for some super big time drama, but like I said this book is a pretty quick read so the few instances of straight up confrontation came and went pretty fast. Devlin has come back to the small town where he grew up to avenge his father who was wrongfully accused of embezzling and then died in jail. And wouldn’t you know it, the guy who set up Devlin’s father is the father of our lovely heroine, Rebecca. Rebecca is pretty mousy actually, she seems to go out of her way to be unremarkable, wrapping herself in unflattering clothing and big glasses to hide behind. That’s not to say she is unremarkable, she is beautiful and talented and what seems like an overall pretty good person. She was easy to like. But being in this small town, where the Queen Bee basically hates her is not an easy […]

Wicked Charming by Nazarea Andrews

I love books that kind of retell fairytales, I kind of adore fairytales, so modern interpretations of them make me super happy. When I read the blurb about this one, and how all the male fairytale characters seem to have opened up a BDSM club together, well to say my interest was peeked would be an understatement. So the first book in this series focusing on the Prince Charming character. He’s heir to a huge pharmaceutical empire, but he is totally not down with that becoming his life. He loves being part owner of the Kingdom, although he has been feeling a tad bit restless, but being a corporate guy, so not his thing. Charming is kind of looking to maybe settle down, or rather find himself a submissive who doesn’t bore him before the scene is even over, so when he takes a liking to one of the bartenders at the club, things really start to shift for him. I hate to admit it, but I had a hard time getting into this book, it wasn’t so much the story or the subject matter, but the nicknames. Each guy has a nickname, Charming, Wolf, Beast, etc, and they also have real names too, like Charming is Samul Charming, which wasn’t too hard to catch on to, but some of the others were. And the name are used to often and interchangeable in the beginning that it was a bit much for me. Maybe I’m just terrible at names. Now […]

Fake Fiancee by Ilsa Madden-Mills

I’m a big fan of Ilsa, I mean I think I have read Dirty English like twenty times by now and Filthy English was awesome too, so I was super excited when I heard about this book. I also have a tendency to really love the whole fake relationship dynamic too, plus add in some college backdrop and I am more then happy to jump right in and get lost in this book. So when we meet Sunny right off the bat you know that she hasn’t exactly had the easiest life, she’s running away from home when we meet her in the prologue, and the way she is running you know life has been hard. When the book really starts though she is well into college, just like Max is. Sunny has sworn off jocks after her last boyfriend cheated, and Max is not looking for anything other then football especially since his last girlfriend faked a pregnancy to trap him. I have to admit I love the way these two met, I mean having a groupie crash into your parked car and drive off so you have to go next door to your neighbor and demand her information is kind of a hilarious meet cute. I liked how stand up of a guy Max was, right off the bat willing to help her or even pay for the damage (granted he just really wanted to keep him image clean because he really wanted the Heisman). But you could […]

Casanova by Emma Hart

Without a doubt I adore Emma Hart, I don’t think that will ever change. She has a great writing style that is just so easy to fall into. I was looking forward to this book because I love books where the main characters are antagonistic towards each other. What can I say, I’m a girl who likes her books with a bit of drama. Plus Emma has such a great history of laugh out loud moments within her books. Going into the novel, I knew that Lani hated Brett. I knew there was some sort of history behind their relationship, that ended in her hating him, leaving home, and never looking back. I was really looking forward to finding out what the catalyst was for his extreme displeasure towards Brett. For me honestly, I wasn’t impressed with the reason. It’s been eight years, they were kids, she overheard something, and basically hit the ground running. I don’t think it was grounds to leave everything behind and never talk to him again. I don’t think it was grounds for her to act the way she does towards him when she finally sees him. That being said, I did like Lani, she seems like a pretty cool chick. She’s made a good career for herself, she’s a great writer, she has a lot of integrity as a person, so outside of the reasoning for her feelings for Brett I did actually really like her personality. I didn’t love Brett. Wait, no I […]

Being Brooke by Emma Hart

Being Brooke by Emma Hart

Ah friends to lovers! One of my favorites to read. So obviously Emma Hart is one of my favorite authors, and after the ending of her Holly Woods Files series, I needed something to fill the gap, and this was the perfect book. I love Emma’s wit in her books, she always has one of two characters who are just super sassy and make me laugh out loud, they always make the book such a fun time, and this was definitely the case here. Brooke is awesome, there is no way around that. She’s at a point in her life that I can totally relate to, she’s dropped out of college, working at a pretty much dead end job that she’s thrilled with, but without a real direction on where to go from there. The good thing is that she has some seriously awesome friends, Carly and Cain. The problem of course is that Brooke is in love with Cain, pretty much everyone else is aware of this fact, and Cain is dating a woman who seriously dislikes both Brooke and Carly. In a lot of ways Cain is kind of being pulled in two different directions, he wants to be a good boyfriend, but at the same time he has been friends with Carly and Brooke for a really long time, and they are basically like family to him. Of course I was rooting for Cain and Brooke to get together from like page one of the book, especially because […]

Twined Bond by Emma Hart

I have loved this series from the very beginning. I love the moments that make me laugh out loud, I love the moments of tenderness between Drake and Noelle, I love the times I’m sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next, and so much more. When I found out this book was going to be the last book in the series, I have to admit that I wasn’t excited about reading it, because honestly I don’t want this series to be over. But I buckled down and read it, and I have never been so happy to love Emma Hart as an author, I think she did the characters so proud, and at the end I felt sad that it was over but happy with the outcome (which honestly is rare for me when a series comes to an end). So much of this book is a spoiler, and I really think if you are a fan of the series, that you need to experience this book without knowing the spoilers ahead of times. So basically this is going to be a hard review to write because I don’t want to spoil anything. So if you have gotten this far in the series you know that Drake and Noelle are super solid at this point, they are engaged, and I couldn’t be happy for them. This book really brings them even closer together in more ways then one, which I loved. These two of […]
