I love the whole boy/girl next door story, especially when they essentially grew up together. Granted I tend to like them a bit more when the romance is more on the forbidden side, where it’s kind of kept under wraps for a while, I think it’s the suspense that works for me. But it really worked for me in this book too. So Gabe and Jessica have basically grown up together, Jessica basically having lived with Gabe and his family for her much of her life because he dad is a firefighter and not around a whole lot. Her best friend is Gabe’s sister and is basically like a sister to her, basically the whole family is like her family. When Gabe and Jess get together so early on in the story, no one is opposed to it, everyone embraces them being together and its all happiness, sunshine, and flowers. I have to admit I was a little worried this was going to be a boring book, I mean where was the conflict. And then of course, BAM, out of nowhere tragedy strikes and Jessica is never the same. She pulls away from everyone, dumps Gabe, doesn’t talk to the family who basically raised her, and moves out of her dad’s house across the country to get away and heal from her trauma.
