As I’m sure a lot of you are aware, Mandy Baxter is also Amanda Bonilla, who I absolutely adore and completely love her urban fantasy books, so I was super excited when I found out that she was writing romance books too, especially since I read a whole lot more romance then I do urban fantasy these days. Plus I always love a man in uniform, and this book promised me a hot U.S. Marshal so it was a pretty easy sell for me to try out this book. I went back and forth on my feelings for Harper. I loved that she was smart and that she was ambitious. I loved that her job was such an important part of the story, being a political reporter always makes me think about House of Cards, which I love. I think it’s ingrained into reporters that they should push limits to get the story, so it totally made sense to me that Harper was always pushing back against the rules in order to find out the truth. But on the same hand, I sometimes really wanted to shake her. Harper ends up in protective custody after a witnessing a murder of a member of congress, and it’s pretty clear that someone is out to silence her as well.
