My husband is such a huge fan of all things R.A. Salvatore, he has been trying for years to get me to read his books or at least to dip my toe in the universe that he created. So when the opportunity came about for me to get my hands on a couple of ARCs for books in his series, I decided to go ahead and give it a go. Small disclosure, I have no point of reference for the people or the series because I have never read anything else but this, so the book might be more enjoyable to someone who is more familiar with prior works. The first thing that I was really happy about was that the book can be read without really knowing anything about previous books. I do love reading series, being able to jump into a series right in the middle of it is a great advantage. I am fairly certain I missed out on some of the little nuances of things that happened in the past, but overall I didn’t feel like I was super confused the whole time or anything even close to that. I was pretty happy with my ability to keep up and keep track of the characters. This story follows Vasen, who is raised by an adopted father after his mother’s death during his birth.
