I had high hopes for this book, largely because I’m kind of a huge fan of the whole best friends little sister thing, and I love when two people have to hide their relationship from others. So when we meet Karlie and Holden things aren’t exactly what I would call romantic. There is an age gap between the two of them and while Karlie definitely has a thing for Holden, he is a bit on the stand offish side with her. Until of course we find out that it is because he is has a thing for her too. Karlie is young, and lives with her older brother, and to say she is babied by her older brother would probably be a huge understatement. In fact I had a big problem with the way that Karlie allows for the people in her life to baby her. She’s might be young, but she’s an adult, so I mean why would she allow her brother to continue treating her like she was a child. I did like that she did go for what she wanted with Holden though, I mean she clearly wanted him, and even though she knew that it was a situation that her brother would not approve of, she went for it anyways. Of course this whole thing doesn’t play out the way either of them expected. I don’t want to ruin it with a spoiler, but let’s just put it this way, something horrible happened, everyone found out […]

Turn Up the Heat by Serena Bell

I have to admit I was a tiny bit on the fence about this book. The reason why this book appealed to me in the first place is because I like the idea of people starting over, mainly because it is such a hard thing to do. Truth be told I was interested in the whole revenge aspect that it seemed like the synopsis was pointing towards. I mean the way that the synopsis portrayed Kincaid, with a score to settle, he seemed a lot more like a man out for revenge then he did in the story. So first I guess I wanna talk about Lily. I liked Lily, she seems like a nice person, and she also really comes across as really nurturing. She is living with her sister after a bad breakup, and she is saving up money to move back to Chicago where she can go back to pursuing her dream of being a chef. But her ex did a real number on her, making her feel really ashamed of the things that she likes in bed. That whole thing made me feel really sad for her, for someone to make you feel guilty about something so personal is just so wrong, and you could tell it really effected her confidence. As for Kincaid, well I was expecting something completely different that’s for sure. He was much sweeter and more gentle then I was expecting in his personality. I obviously think he was in a tough […]

Fighting for Love by L.P. Dover

This book revolved around a theme I really like in romance books, second chances, two exes finding their way back to each other. Shelby and Matt’s story has all the elements you want in a romance book, steamy heat, tragic pasts, and a villain to defeat. I actually enjoyed this book, it was an easy read, and I enjoyed how everything ended. I liked Shelby, she had a really nice, likable quality about her. I liked that she was intelligent and educated, and was able to hold her own when a man tried to bully her into things. I liked that she was strong, emotionally, she had a big tragedy in her past that could have easily ruined her, but she carried on, and made something out of her life, and I have a lot of respect for that. Although I don’t always agree with Shelby’s decisions, here best guy friend and I are on the same page about a lot of Shelby’s decisions, I do understand them, and I sympathize with her. Matt was a great hero, he definitely comes off as a good looking, very strong, and capable man. I liked that he just went for things he wanted. When Shelby comes back into his life, he doesn’t hesitate, he follows her when she runs away. He does a bit of a control issue when the book starts, he gets egged on by people, and has a hard time keeping his anger in check. But thankfully, Matt learns […]
