I had high hopes for this book, I wanted to love it. It takes place in Texas, my home, the place I still miss a whole heck of a lot. Oh and it’s about book makers, and I don’t know about you guys, but I love a good pair of cowboy boots, I mean seriously, my mom has spent more money then she cares to admit on a pair of red cowboy boots that she still shows off whenever she wears them. Unfortunately, this book did nothing for me. I came very close, several times, to not finishing, but I powered through. Honestly, this book is super kitchy, I grew up in Texas, and even in the small town I have never heard people talk the way they do in this book. It was almost like the author went out of her way to make things down home and quaint, like giving pecan pie a special name, actually every food had a folksy name. It wasn’t endearing, it was super annoying. Our main character is Delaney, who is flighty, and that might be an understatement. She comes from kind of nomad home life until she was a teenager and went to live with her aunt. It seems like none of her parents really cared about her at all, and the situation is sad, but she uses it as reasoning for self sabotaging kind of everything.
