I’m a huge fan of small town romances, I love the dynamics that you find in small towns. You would never see people who have known each other their entire lives and know everything there is to know about everyone in a big like NYC, but in small towns you get lifelong friendships, gossip that spreads before anyone has the chance to pick up the phone, and romances that everyone seems to know about even if you aren’t quite ready for people to know. Part of the reason this book appealed to me was because it was about someone who had to move back to her small town after leaving ten years prior. Going back to where you came from is sometimes a mixed bag, you have to face the things you left behind, sometimes come to grips with revealing the failures you’ve had, but at the same time there really is something great about going home to the people who loved you the most. I liked Melanie, she kind of reminded me a little bit of my mom when I was little. She is super protective of her daughter, although I wouldn’t call it quite stifling. She’s had to make being a single mom work, she has almost no support system out in California and making ends meet is not something that is easily achieved.
