I have had this book for longer then I care to admit, I think I picked it up and then forgot I did (but haven’t we all been guilty of that), so when I stumbled upon it again, it was the best happy accident. I loved the setting of the book, out away from big cities, in the woods, Isabelle West had been living a solitary life for a long time, and I don’t think she ever expected a U.S. Marshal to show up one day and throw a wrench into her life. So Isabelle is so interesting to me. First of all, she has the strongest and initially strangest reaction to having a U.S. Marshall on her doorstep asking her if she has seen anything out of the ordinary. I mean she actually doesn’t believe this guy is who he says he is and is kind of openly hostile to him. Clearly she is hiding something or hiding from someone, and it just makes her all the more interesting. As the book goes on and she starts to let her guard down you get to know the real Isabelle. She’s fun and careful, super independent, and honestly, she says the funniest things. It’s like she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks so she says whats on her mind when its on her mind, and she thinks so dirty thoughts (which I loved!). I liked Isabelle, just completely liked her.
