Welcome Home for Christmas by Annie Rains

I think I’ve made it unbelievably clear in years past how much I love Christmas, I mean Christmas is my jam, if it could happen year round I would be in heaven. So needless to say I love when Christmas books start making their rounds, yes please! So this book is cute I guess is the best way that I would describe it. It is clearly a feel good book, definitely a steady dose of candy and sweetness. So Allison is our heroine, and she is dreading the family events for Christmas. That’s not to say she is dreading Christmas itself, she loves this time of year, but her mom points out her man issues at every turn. I get why she wants to avoid that. So she solves the problem with a fake relationship with a military cop that she “purchases” at a charity auction. Allison is likable for the most part. She’s clearly a good person, she works with vets, volunteers with orphans, goes above and beyond to help people, there is even an instance when she gives away her lunch when she’s hungry. So this book takes place in a small town, and basically centers around the elementary school, after all our single dad, Micah, has an 8 year old, Ben, who attends the school, and our heroine, Kat, is the principal of the school. I always get a little bit leery when kids are involved, sometimes it just doesn’t work out for me, I think I prefer my kids in books to be closer to the baby age or older in the teenage department. But hey that’s just me. That being said, I thought this book worked for me, even though we were dealing with an elementary age child. He was a special kid, Ben is living with cerebral palsy, and it definitely caused more then just physical challenges in his life. What worked for me was how devoted of a dad Micah is to Ben. Micah is a marine, but he wants to be around more for his son, so not only does he work as a marine but he also works part time landscaping at the school. Micah is so unbelievably devoted to his kid, all he wants is the best for him, he wants him to stand up to bullies, to try and be as independent as his body will allow him to be, and just in general he wants happiness […]
