I don’t know about you guys, but I totally love the whole tortured hero thing. There is just something about a guy who is a little bit on the damaged side coming through a story on the other side, a bit more healed then he thought possible thanks to a good woman. This was definitely one of those books. So Janelle is our heroine, and she’s definitely in a tough spot. She used to be married to a crazy guy, who was everything she thought he wasn’t. Turns out when you marry a guy thinking he is a successful pharmacy rep, there is apparently the off chance he might actually be a heroin trafficker who has seriously psychopathic tendencies. Oh and when you divorce him, he goes nuts and wants to find you to either kidnap you away or kill you. Not really good options. So Janelle does the other thing she can, she goes into hiding with her sister’s fiance’s brother, Schwartz. I liked Janelle a lot. She’s funny, and kind, and easily adaptable. I loved how she took to living out in the woods in her own special way, drinking espresso and collecting clay for mud facials. As for Schwartz, well you can’t help but feel for the guy. He’s in some kind of self-inflicted exile and basically hasn’t seen his family in 10 years. He’s a vet, and he came back from the war with some serious scars, but emotional and physical.
