I love Sylvia Day, her writing just works for me. I will say before you even consider reading this book, you have to read the first book in the series Afterburner, if you haven’t read it yet, hold off on reading this review, it may give away some spoilery details. So I have t say that the thing I liked the most about this book was that Gia is completely willing to say no to a guy. I mean how many books have I read this past year where the heroine is totally on bored with giving up her live and just going along with whatever the hero wants. It’s clear Gia has chemistry with Jax and I think wants him back, but she isn’t wiling to make sacrifices that compromise who she is. I thought Jax was a little pushy, but then again I think that comes from his family and his chosen job. I liked that he wanted to be with Gia, but I thought he did have a couple of moments where there was some serious overreaction on his part. I think the biggest thing that Gia and Jax need to work on is the communication skills. But they do have some great chemistry, and I loved the storyline with Gia’s job and then with Jax’s family. I thought this was a great quick read, so if you need a novella to read, you should check out this quick two book series.
Series: Afterburn & Aftershock

I was a little apprehensive about trying out this series though because I think Day excels at the Crossfire series because of its length, and I know from experience that Cosmo Hot Reads are short, but since I knew this was going to be a two parter I decided to give it ago. I know in the past I have said how much I am not really a fan of novellas, but I am coming around to them having a place in my reading style. Every once in a while I need a quick read, and this is where these Cosmo Hot Reads fit in for me. The main thing I love about this book is that it is written very much in Day’s typical style, her writing voice is great and very addictive for me, I have a hard time putting down her books for just that reason. The story for Jax and Gia are on opposite sides of a business deal and they have a history. One that didn’t exactly end well. To make matters worse Jax is getting in the way of Gia’s new career path, but at the same time they just have such great chemistry. This book does end in a cliff hanger, so I don’t want to say too much in this review, but it was a fun read, and I was definitely looking […]
