The Sapphire Affair by Lauren Blakely

The Sapphire Affair by Lauren Blakely

I spent a lot of time on islands when I was a kid, and man do I miss it sometimes, nothing like an afternoon rain, weather that never goes over the 80s, and oceans and rainforests for days. So to say that the setting of this book appealed to me might be a little bit on an understatement. Plus this book had a bit of a mystery going on in it, so I was more then ready to dig in and find out who the bad guy was, and what in the heck was going on. So our book starts out with both our main characters, Steph and Jake getting on the case of Steph’s maybe embezzling stepfather. Steph gets involved for personal reasons, like wanting her mother to get what should have been hers in the divorce rather then basically getting nothing from her stepdad. And Jake, who is a bounty hunter is looking for the information about where this embezzled money could have possibly gone and maybe getting it back. Of course neither of them know about each other, so where they meet, it’s all just attraction, of course until they figure out who the other person is. Can they trust each other? After all they are working for the same goals her, so doesn’t it make sense for them to work together? These two are fun to read on the page, there is so much great banter and chemistry between them, that it makes the book just […]

Beautiful Broken Rules by Kimberly Lauren

Every once in a while I pick up a book from Kindle Unlimited that I completely totally love, this was one of those books. I loved this book from beginning to end, there was just so much going on that I liked, that I was beyond happy I rented this book. First things first, I love a good college romance, and more than that I love when the characters actually feel like real people who actually go to college, and not some super nice, clean cut version of what people really are. Life is messy, people are flawed, and I love when books put that up front and in your face. Emerson is the culmination of so many girls I knew when I was in my early 20s. She’s flawed, she has painful history, both her parents dying on the same day in a car accident after being long divorced (read between the lines here), oh and did I mention it was her birthday. Needless to say she doesn’t really believe in relationships, not just because she doesn’t trust them, but because the idea of letting anyone get too close and having to endure that kind of heartbreak again, it just not something she can handle. I like how up front she was about her rules, about how she has sleep with quite a few people and has no real intention of stopping, but mostly I liked her actual relationships with people, her sister Quinn and her best friend Cole, […]

Doing It Over by Catherine Bybee

I’m a huge fan of small town romances, I love the dynamics that you find in small towns. You would never see people who have known each other their entire lives and know everything there is to know about everyone in a big like NYC, but in small towns you get lifelong friendships, gossip that spreads before anyone has the chance to pick up the phone, and romances that everyone seems to know about even if you aren’t quite ready for people to know. Part of the reason this book appealed to me was because it was about someone who had to move back to her small town after leaving ten years prior. Going back to where you came from is sometimes a mixed bag, you have to face the things you left behind, sometimes come to grips with revealing the failures you’ve had, but at the same time there really is something great about going home to the people who loved you the most. I liked Melanie, she kind of reminded me a little bit of my mom when I was little. She is super protective of her daughter, although I wouldn’t call it quite stifling. She’s had to make being a single mom work, she has almost no support system out in California and making ends meet is not something that is easily achieved. So when her 10 year reunion comes up, she takes the opportunity to go ahead and just move back home. Things have changed, friends […]

Sweetest Chase by Sharla Lovelace

I loved this book! I didn’t read the first book in this series, and honestly I wish I had, because this author is just so amazing at pulling at my emotional heartstrings! I know a lot of people don’t enjoy the whole kind of love triangle thing, but this one is done so well, and you can tell that no one really wants to hurt anyone. And honestly, this book felt so well done, that I could see this scenario playing out in real life. So the book starts and you have Quinn getting ready to get married, and Simon trying not to have the feelings he has for Quinn. So Quinn and Simon have a long history together and are pretty much best friends. Although they met through Simon’s sister, who Quinn lives with. The thing about Quinn and her upcoming wedding is that it seems like she is just stepping into the role that everyone in her family is kind of pushing her into. I mean her mother isn’t letting her make any of the choices for her own wedding, and basically nit picks her into oblivion. Her mom insults her at almost every chance she has, and basically talks down about her career. It’s almost like everyone just kind of thinks Quinn has had her fun in college and for a few years working as a photographer and on the reality show, but now that she’s getting married she is going to give it all up and […]

Treasured by Thursday by Catherine Bybee

I can honestly say this book was in no way what I was expecting it to be. I am coming in late to this series (I mean this is the last one in the series, and the first book I’ve read from it), and I can honestly say I wish I had found this series earlier. So when I read the synopsis for this book, I was intrigued, I mean I like the temporary wife/fake marriage storyline, add a little blackmail to it and I’m intrigued. So I went into this book thinking it was going to be a reluctant wife, a husband who need a wife only for convenience and they would slowly fall in love and get their happily ever after. I mean the cover just looks so innocent and sweet, I was expecting sugar, and instead I got suspense, danger, some funny one liners, passion, and characters who were not at all what they seemed to be. Can’t even begin to say how happy I am with the way this book turned out. So I know I normally start with the heroine, but today I’m gonna start with our hero instead, Hunter. I will fully admit he comes off as very arrogant, and at the beginning of the book I thought to myself, “I’m gonna hate this dude,” I fully expected myself to come out on the other side of this book having enjoyed my read, but not loving it. There is so much more to Hunter then […]
