The Boy Next Door by Ella James

I’m starting to feel like I have a really big obsession with best friends sibling books, I mean seriously, I feel like I have gone out of my way to collect as many of them as I can. That being said, this book doesn’t necessarily read like that. Amelia and Dash meet when they were kids, Amelia was younger and she became fast friends with Dash’s sister, best friends actually. In high school the friendship started to grow apart, and they eventually went their own ways, so when the book starts, it doesn’t really have that best friends sibling vibe, because the best friends are best friends anymore. That being said, this book was totally without a doubt enjoyable for me, I like the emotional heartstrings that thing book pulled. Like I said, the future has arrived, and Dash and Amelia have a complicated past, Amelia was like super duper insane in love with Dash, but she was younger and so Dash didn’t really entertain her crush until after he went away to college. And then of course once the two of them come together and disaster strikes, Dash takes off and never looks back. So of course when Amelia finds out she is going to be interning under him at her dream animation job, well to say it’s tension filled would be an understatement. I like how unsure the two of them are about how to handle the situation. Yes it has been years since they have seen or […]

The Bad Boy Next Door by Jody Holford

I like stories about neighbors, nothing like the person you literally just can’t get away from. I wasn’t 100% on board with the title, but the description won me over. I am also a big fan of starting over, so I was really kind of excited to see Shay start her life in a new place and all that jazz. I wanted to like Shay, I really, really did. I mean she has a lot of good qualities, she’s nice, she’s a good friend/neighbor even though everyone she is meeting is very new to her, she goes out of her way to be grateful to people who are kind to her, so she’s not like a bad character or something. BUT, she has like a mania for being independent, to like such a degree that it’s kind of annoying. I mean I get that she grew up with older brothers, and her family basically coddled her, and she wants to make it on her own, which I support, but I mean come on, like can’t you just accept other people being kind to you without it being some kind of threat on your independence. Also when things start to pick up with Wyatt, she is a little bit overly emotional, I mean she jumps to conclusions about things really quickly, and reacts really quickly. I don’t know she bugged me. Wyatt, I understood a lot more. He’s coming off an undercover assignment, and is carrying some serious baggage and trust […]

Fake Fiancee by Ilsa Madden-Mills

I’m a big fan of Ilsa, I mean I think I have read Dirty English like twenty times by now and Filthy English was awesome too, so I was super excited when I heard about this book. I also have a tendency to really love the whole fake relationship dynamic too, plus add in some college backdrop and I am more then happy to jump right in and get lost in this book. So when we meet Sunny right off the bat you know that she hasn’t exactly had the easiest life, she’s running away from home when we meet her in the prologue, and the way she is running you know life has been hard. When the book really starts though she is well into college, just like Max is. Sunny has sworn off jocks after her last boyfriend cheated, and Max is not looking for anything other then football especially since his last girlfriend faked a pregnancy to trap him. I have to admit I love the way these two met, I mean having a groupie crash into your parked car and drive off so you have to go next door to your neighbor and demand her information is kind of a hilarious meet cute. I liked how stand up of a guy Max was, right off the bat willing to help her or even pay for the damage (granted he just really wanted to keep him image clean because he really wanted the Heisman). But you could […]

Bad Neighbor by M. O’Keefe

I have to admit, I stalked this book, I’m not at all ashamed, I woke up every morning and checked to see if it came out yet (I’m terrible at paying attention to calendars). And the second it arrived on my kindle I sat down and read it from beginning to end. It was like the exact right book came to me at the exact right moment, I had been thinking about trying to find a book where the main character was in hiding. I also really like books where the main characters are neighbors (I’m thinking Neighbor Dearest right now). Anyway when we meet our leading lady she is in the middle of moving into a super sketchy apartment, having given all her money away to her sister and sold everything she owns. So basically she is poor, starting over, and hiding from her sister’s psychotic ex. Charlotte is really easy to like, I mean she gave up basically her whole life to make sure that her sister would be safe. It’s no surprise that she would be a good person. She’s sweet and nice, and a good neighbor. She works from home, has some serious artistic flare, which I appreciate, and she tries to make her life as cheerful as possible, and I liked that about her. Even though life had decidedly taken a turn, she still tries, even though its clear in several instances during the book that she is nervous that her sister’s ex is going […]
