Distracted by Her by Caitlyn Blue

I got this book quite some time ago, and I read it a while ago too, I just forgot to write a review, so I reread it and it held up pretty well the second time around. I tend to really like revenge plots, they are just so juicy with drama. Plus this one had the added in fake relationship, and you just know fake relationships always turn into something more. The book is pretty fast paced, it was a quick read both times which is just what I was looking for. This book definitely has some serious complications that could have made for some super big time drama, but like I said this book is a pretty quick read so the few instances of straight up confrontation came and went pretty fast. Devlin has come back to the small town where he grew up to avenge his father who was wrongfully accused of embezzling and then died in jail. And wouldn’t you know it, the guy who set up Devlin’s father is the father of our lovely heroine, Rebecca. Rebecca is pretty mousy actually, she seems to go out of her way to be unremarkable, wrapping herself in unflattering clothing and big glasses to hide behind. That’s not to say she is unremarkable, she is beautiful and talented and what seems like an overall pretty good person. She was easy to like. But being in this small town, where the Queen Bee basically hates her is not an easy […]

Encore by Tara Kelly

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. From the blurb it had all of the elements I was looking for in a book, it just didn’t come together for me. I love books in the music scene, and I was excited about the going on tour aspect on the book, I also liked how the blurb alluded to the girl having a thing for one of her bandmates. Ultimately, I wasn’t in love with any of the characters in the book. First of all the main character, our heroine, Jasmine, is young, I think for the entirety of the book she is 17, and honestly it really comes off that way. I have a hard time really getting into characters who are that young, and that was a big problem for me. I didn’t find Jasmine to be super likable, it wasn’t that she wasn’t likable, it was more that she was so in her own head that I just didn’t enjoy her all that much. And the other characters in the book didn’t stand out to me either as being really likable either. It’s hard for me to like a book when I don’t love at least one of the characters in a book. Also I really felt like the author was trying to make a lot of points with this book, I mean she touched on a lot of different issues in one book. While I really like when an author brings issues […]

F*CKER by Amo Jones

I had never read Amo Jones before, but this cover just screamed out to me, it could be because I’m a huge fan of curse words, or maybe that the title is written in an awesome glittery font, or maybe its the cover model, but I wanted this book and I wanted it bad. I honestly didn’t even realize this was the second book in the series until about midway through the book when they started introducing other characters. But honestly you can read this book completely as a stand alone, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything while reading this book. So Ryker and Bryleigh met when they were in high school together. Ryker played basketball and was fairly close with Bryleigh’s dad because of the basketball. So when her dad sends him to a party she is going to in order to make sure she is safe, well let’s just say it gets the ball rolling on this high school romance. These two heat up like crazy, and quick too. They both seem to be fairly volatile around each other, and have some serious jealously problems, which is interesting because I’m fairly certain these two basically agrees on no commitment. But regardless, it all comes crashing down. I don’t want to explain how because frankly it needs to be read, I mean it seriously broke my heart when I read it, and you guys need to experience that. So flash forward 8 years and both Ryker and […]

Wait by A.L. Jackson

I have read a few books by A.L. Jackson, and I always have to prepare myself before I read them. She writes books that tend to have a lot of pain in them, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and I like going along for the journey the characters make to get over the trials of their lives. So when I started this book, that is exactly what I was expecting, and I was not disappointed. So this book could be a called a second chance romance, because our main characters have more than a little bit of history together. Edie and Austin are both siblings of people in a rock band together. Which basically means when they were younger they were exposed to things they probably shouldn’t have been, for Austin that meant drugs and alcohol. And for Edie, well it meant being around people she should in no way have ever been around. Edie and Austin both carry some serious scars with them, Austin blames himself for the death of his brother, and Edie has to live with a traumatic experience that haunts her to this day. These two did not part ways on happy terms, Edie felt that Austin betrayed her trust in regards to her secrets. Both of them left there families behind (at different times) and tried to start over. Which brings up to present time. Edie is living a life in a seaside town and has a best […]

Rocking Kin by Terri Anne Browning

Rocking Kin by Terri Anne Browning

This is the third novella in the Lucy and Harris series, and I was actually pretty excited about this one. I really liked Kin from the first two novellas, she’s a great friend to Lucy and she clearly has some serious history with Jace that clearly needs to get resolved. I think I was expecting this book to start when the second left off, maybe get caught up with what happens between after Lucy leaves for school (especially since the novel starts with a bit of a time jump). But this book moves all the way back to the beginning, so be prepared to see some of the same scenes just from a different perspective. So I still really do like Kin after reading this book. That hasn’t changed at all. But honestly the book kind of read a bit choppy. In the first two novellas there is really like a consistent timeline and passage of time. But with Kin things kind of time jump more than I was expecting. And really most of Kin’s story is thing that Lucy’s stories mentioned or made reference to, just with a little bit more background. I guess what I mean by that is that there isn’t a lot of original scenes that are solely devoted to Kin without having already been talked about with Lucy. That kind of really bummed me out. One of the things that also bothered me about this book is the stepmonster. Kin’s step mother is horrible, and […]

Craving Lucy by Terri Anne Browning

Another novella, again not a huge fan of novellas but because these all follow the same cast and lead into a full length book I was more than willing to give these books a shot. So we have moved from friends to lovers, and I’m stoked about it. I really liked both Harris and Lucy in the first novella, so without a doubt I was rooting for them to get their happy ending. In this novella though I wouldn’t necessarily say these two got the happy ending that I wanted so badly for them. You get to see these two really start to make a go of it with their relationship though, how they deal with issues, and really come together as a couple. I have to say I really liked Lucy in this book, she has proven herself to be a pretty strong girl, she takes some bad situations and just powers through. That’s not to say that Lucy doesn’t have some problems though, she has some dark things from her past that follow her around, and let’s just say her coping mechanisms are not exactly healthy. In this book, I felt like you really got more of a sense of the supporting characters. I really liked Lucy’s friend Kin, she’s a pretty cool chick and she has some serious relationship issues of her own to work through. You also get to see a lot more of Lucy’s family, which I can honestly say, I really liked them a […]

Catching Lucy by Terri Anne Browning

I love best friends who turn into something more, I don’t know why but I really do. Now normally I am not a huge fan of novellas, I like full length books because I like to follow the characters on a journey, but these novellas follow the same cast of characters and lead into a full length book, so I was willing to give this novella a shot. So Lucy and Harris basically grew up around each other, they both come from families that have money and are celebrities, so its understandable how they would be able to bond with one another. But when the book starts, it seems like Lucy and Harris are more than a little bit on the outs. Lucy is basically avoiding him and Harris is determined to get Lucy back in his life. These novellas are pretty short so I don’t want to go to far into the story or I think I would ruin the enjoyment of the book. But I really did enjoy beginning to get to know these two characters. I liked how they got along, and how things were so strained in the beginning and then really evolve into something more. I liked how Harris is really a pretty honorable guy who wants to not only do right by Lucy but also do right by their families and friends. It was easy to really like them both, and I look forward to seeing where there journeys take them, and maybe get […]

Strum Your Heart Out by Crystal Kaswell

I’ve had a Kindle Unlimited subscription for a while, but I never really use it as much as I really should, so I have been trying to borrow more books lately and this was one of the books that I picked. I picked this book because I love rock star romances, and I also really like when best friends hook up. Part of the reason this book really stood out to me was that it seemed like of low key, I mean the hero is a rock star, but the premise is basically his best friend moves in with him, that’s pretty relatable. So Kara is a senior in college and getting ready to start her life, which seems to be pretty preplanned by her mother, when really she has other dreams of being a teacher instead. Well one day her roommate basically kicks her out with like next to no notice, she’s kind of freaking out about it. So when her overprotective best friends offers to get a place together, she comes around pretty quickly to the idea. The problem lies in the fact that she is pretty attracted to him (he’s a super hot rock star so that’s kind of a given) but she also has a lot of personal issues. Kara is super insecure about herself, she has a history of cutting, and because of that she’s left with scars. Unfortunately in the past people have had bad reactions to her scars and she is now super […]

Good Girl by Lauren Layne

Good Girl by Lauren Layne

So I really enjoy Lauren Layne, I’ve read a couple of her books before and she is one of those authors where I know going in I am going to enjoy the book. That being said, this one was a step above for me, mostly because I was so emotionally invested in our heroine, I was right there with her throughout the entire book and at the end when it was all over I left the book feeling really satisfied and happy, and frankly these days that doesn’t happen as often as I would like. Jenny was really an awesome character for me, and on paper she isn’t necessarily I would normally gravitate towards. So Jenny is a country music star who is temporary living in L.A. to work on writing her next album when scandal hits. So she does what any self respecting starlet who didn’t actually commit the actions in the scandal would do, go into hiding. So that’s how she ends up in the Louisiana bayou in a house that is beyond run down with a hot yet grumbly caretaker in the middle of DIYing it back to life. So Jenny is actually a fairly inexperienced person romantically, which is something that tends to annoy me in books, but in this book it really worked for me, and it also read really authentic. I loved how Lauren was able to convey Jenny’s insecurities without ramming them down my throat, they were all believable and understandable, it was […]

Dirty Little Rendezvous by Emma Hart

It’s really no secret that I really adore Emma Hart, although I must admit I’ve only read about half of this series, I have loved the books that I have read so far, but this book, I was super excited about. I loved the fact that it takes us across the pond, but still has all the characters that I know a love from the series in it. It kind of gave the book a fresh feel to it, and I think it also was really great that Leila was able to get her own romance, especially since every one of her brothers got a romance before her. I think Leila is really interesting, and you don’t really give a lot of thought to what it must be like to be the non-famous sibling of a celebrity. You see this early on in the book, how most people who want to be around her are more looking for access to her brothers then a friendship or relationship with her. I feel so bad for her that she has to worry about that kind of thing, but Leila also is kind of amazing in her attitude, she doesn’t let people take advantage of her, and I love for that. But I think what was most interesting me is that she kind of lives in her brothers shadows, I mean she doesn’t have a job, and she travel with her brothers sometimes, she really doesn’t have anything for herself. What was great […]
