Sweet Cheeks by K. Bromberg

I was already a pretty big fan of K. Bromberg when I got my hands on this book, and I will admit I held on to it for a while after I bought it because I was in the middle of a bunch of series, but when I finished catching up this was the perfect stand along palate cleaner. It left me feeling all nice and refreshed, and there is something great about a standalone when you have been stuck in a sea of series for a while. Plus this book had a lot of the elements that I like in a book, and second chance ex, a not so great ex, funny moments, long histories, an independent and easy to like heroine, the whole thing was just my jam. Saylor was so easy for me to like, she’s funny and the perfect amount of snarky, she’s a business owner who is really driven, and the kicker for me right off the bat, was that she knew when something was wrong in life and did what was best for her. Prior to the book starting she was engaged, and it just didn’t feel right, so she walked away (woot go her), of course this leads up to the catalyst of this book, her wedding invitation showing up (with only the brides name changed) and then the RSVP being sent back accidentally. Hayes is easy to like to, I don’t know if I loved him as much as I loved Saylor, […]

Lucky Star by Rebecca Caudill

I love movie star romances, I don’t know why but I really do just love them. I liked the concept behind this one, mostly because the movie that our hero is cast in that throws him into the limelight is one of those huge book series’ that is turned into a movie franchise that basically causes everyone to lose their ever lovin’ minds. There is something about the way the media deals with celebrity that is somewhat fascinating to me, so this was a kind of cool exploration of that. So our heroine is Sarah, who I liked a lot actually. She is a super hard worker, she really wants to do the best she can for her job and move ahead, and she’s really smart. She’s just one of those girls who is easy to relate to. There were some aspects to her that I didn’t love, but I think it was situational then a character flaw. When things start getting weird with her and her boyfriend I didn’t feel like she fought for the relationship or really for herself. There were also a couple of moments where people said some things about her that truly did break my heart for her. She is easily the character I enjoyed most in this book. As for our hero, Cameron, well, I didn’t love him. Like at all. Uh, in the beginning I liked the friendship dynamic I suppose, but after Sarah and him hooked up he had the worst reaction […]

So this is the sequel to Tryst, which I really liked, I liked the whole secret romance/brother’s best friend element to it all. So in this book, these two are all out in the open, and now it’s time to see if Blake and Skyler can make it as a couple as both their lives start to take new directions. As noted in the first book Blake books a BIG TIME Hollywood movie that is going to be a lot of attention to him, and well Skyler is getting ready to graduate and possibly go on to medical school. So the bench mark of this book is how separate these two people’s lives have become. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of interactions between the two of them, but honestly its much more ships passing in the night kind of interactions, and a lot of the interactions are taking place in the bedroom and not with a lot of time to do couple things outside of the bedroom. Blake is traveling a lot more in this book, and working long hours on a movie set. I will say I did like how much he misses his girlfriend. Also how he told just about everyone how much he missed her, it was clear he was in a relationship and loved her very much, so he never sent mixed signals about that to anyone. That’s not say that his co-star was 100% on board with his “off limits” sign. I […]

I don’t know about you guys, but I really do love the whole friends with benefits thing, because well frankly that like never works out, someone always ends up having feelings for the other and it always either implodes or ends up in a relationship. Regardless I love the drama of it all. This book also had the whole older brothers best friend thing going for it too, and I absolutely love that. So when we meet Skyler she is moving into her brothers place because she just going out of a really bad relationship. Like the kind of relationship that results in restraining orders and changing where you live and your phone number. You can tell that Skyler is really still getting over the whole breakup, and she’s also pretty embarrassed about the whole situation, so not a lot of people really know what happened. Skyler works hard in school and is a college athlete, and she’s just in general a pretty chill, cool girl. I liked her for the most part, I wasn’t a huge fan of how wishy washy she was about some things. Like there is a guy in her life who she is friends with, but who she has like a longstanding flirting relationship, and it’s clear he is interested in her, but she never really shuts its down. She knows she doesn’t want that with him, but she just lets it continue and honestly it made me kind of think less of her. She […]

Dirty Girl by Meghan March

So not to long ago, I came across The Dirty Billionaire series in the middle of the night, and over the course of a day I read all three books (I still need to review two of them), and I really loved reading the series. So when this book came my way, and I realized its a spin off of the series, I knew I wanted to read it as soon as possible. You don’t really get to know much about Greer in the first series, other than she is Creighton’s little sister who is also a lawyer, so this was your chance to really get to know her. Now, you don’t have to read the original series in order to enjoy this book, but I think you should, because Creighton does make quite a few appearances in this book and even though he is on the peripheral during the book he does play an important role. So the book starts with Greer having put out an internet ad after finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman, and lets just say the ad is definitely an attention getter and a a tad be crude (see the book blurb), ah the product of a drunk night. Needless to say the internet has blown up with the ad and Greer is suddenly at the center of attention and its not good attention. Ultimately this is basically the catalyst for her to really look at her life and realize she isn’t really doing what […]

Malibu Secrets by M.K. Meredith

So this is book 2 in the series, but it’s totally a stand alone, so don’t feel like you can’t pick up this book without reading the first. I really liked the concept of this book, mostly because our heroine is kind of at a breaking point, her life is pretty much standing on the edge of a cliff, she’s about to lose her house, her career is going no where, and her family is just waiting for her to fail again so she will have to move back home. And of course add in an element of movie stars and Hollywood, and you definitely have an interesting dynamic for a book. So I liked Addi a lot. I think it is going to be easy for just about anyone to kind of see yourself in her, I mean we all have times where were are feeling a little bit directionless. So Addi’s sister just got married to a movie star, and while at the wedding she runs into Hollywood royalty, Roque (said like Rock), who she promptly blows off as being just another Hollywood guy used to getting what he wants. Until of course he shows up at her house asking to rent it to film his latest movie. In a desperate attempt to save her house and really be able to follow her dream of being a full time writer, she comes up with a way to get a ton of money for the house and for her […]

Hold Me Until Morning by Christina Phillips

So I am a sucker for romances that involve a guy falling for his best friends younger sister. I love the whole inherently forbidden aspect of it, because nine times out of ten the couple in questions hides the relationship from everyone and it just makes it all the more exciting. The characters in this book definitely kept their relationship under wraps, but that had more to do with the fact that Paris is a Hollywood actress and she’s trying to escape from that world for a while. Sounded like to me that this book had all the right elements for me to enjoy it. Paris, our heroine, has been working on the same prime time soap since she was a young teenager, and at this point she has had enough. You can’t blame her for wanting a life outside of the glitz and glammer of it all, especially since there have been some real after effects from this way of life. I felt kind of sorry for Paris while reading this book, she has no idea who she can trust, she’s very isolated (even though she is surrounded by people all the time), and her mother has created an environment for her that is based on only letting people around her that can do something for her. Paris just wants to be normal, she just wants to have people in her life she can talk to. She was in no way expecting to be attracted to the guy her […]

Here All Along by Crista McHugh

I love a book movie star romance book, I love looking at People and imagining what the lives of movie stars are like, some whenever I see a movie star romance, I almost always pick it up. This book is pretty far into the series I believe, but that being said it can totally be read as a standalone, so have no fear. So part of what appealed to me about this book right off the bat is that Sarah was a child star, and now she is working for her best friend, Gideon, who is a movie star. I would think that it would hard to go from being the famous person to the person serving the famous person, but for her I think it was totally the right move. I also think it helps that Gideon and Sarah are best friends and they have a great dynamic together. Of course from the beginning of the book you know that Gideon wants more with Sarah then just to be friends who work together, he wants to be with Sarah. Sarah on the other hand wants to prove some things to herself first, like that she can stand on her own two feet. Part of what I liked about Sarah is that she was able to really pull herself up after her life took a downturn, recovering from addiction problems isn’t easy, but she did it, and I totally respected that about her. I also really liked how sweet she […]

Capture by Rachel Van Dyken

I have read a few Rachel Van Dyken books before, and I really enjoy reading her work. She is great with pacing and with story so I was really looking forward to reading this book. I was also pretty intrigued with how Dani, our main character is mute because of a trauma she experienced, it’s something I haven’t read before, and I love reading new things. So Dani is so adorable, and I really liked her. I think Rachel did a great job capturing the essence of a seventeen year old girl, she really got the snark down fantastically. So Dani’s parents died in an accident one that she seems to feel pretty responsible for, and after the accident she became a selective mute. It’s really kind of heartbreaking. But she has a great group of people around her, her sister Pris and her husband Jaymeson as well as her best friends from the band AD2. They have really accepted her and do their best to both help her and sometimes push her to go outside of her boundaries. I really loved her inner-monologue and how snarky she could be in text messages (after all she had to communicate somehow and texts totally make it easier for her). Our hero in the story is movie star Linc, who hires Dani to be his assistant while he is working on his new movie with Jaymeson and Pris. Let’s just say they start out a bit on the bumpy side. There first […]

Close to Heart by T.J. Kline

I kind of love the premise of this book, woman is leaving her husband and finds sanctuary in a new place she’s never been, the only hiccup in this is that this particular woman who is leaving her husband is pregnant, and I think we can all agree that kind of raises the stakes of the book. So Alyssa used to be a movie star, until she married her agent and then he slowly started to pull her away from her acting and then isolated her from all of her friends. Let’s face it the guy was a total jerk, and did I mention he was cheating on her with her best friend. Yeah real winner. So when her husband makes it clear that she can pretty much get used to the cheating or she can leave, she leaves. Only now she has to figure out how to live when she is about to have a baby, and her hubby has all the cash. I felt bad for Alyssa, and it took a while through the course of the book for her to really come to terms with what had happened with her husband. I will say I was really proud of her by the end, I think it’s a really hard thing to learn to stand on your own again and to stand up for yourself, so it was good watching her go through that and come out on the other side. Justin is the guy who rescues Alyssa […]
