Chain Reaction by Tara Wyatt

So this is book 3 in the series, and I haven’t read the first two, or any other book written by Tara before, but I have to say I enjoyed this book. I have really been in the mood for some suspense in my romance lately, and this book definitely brings the suspense. It also brings with it a pretty hefty dose of family drama and angst. I figured out pretty quickly that this series seems to revolve around a group of friends, and the guys all seem to work for one guys security company, so basically the dudes are hot, muscley, bodyguards (woot woot, sign me up). So Alexa and Zach obviously know each other before this book beginnings. And when we meet Alexa, man, let’s just say I am more than happy that I don’t have to sit through family dinners like that. It would be bad enough dealing with controlling parents who put her down, but it turns out they are really, really bad parents and people. Alexa overhears something at dinner and when Zach sees her he knows something is up. So I really liked that Alexa didn’t try to handle things on her own. She tells her friends and the people she loves right away. And when she realizes that she has knowledge that could help keep people safe, she steps up, and I like that. She definitely gave me kind of a nervous vibe throughout the book, even when the scenes weren’t necessarily about […]

Bad Neighbor by M. O’Keefe

I have to admit, I stalked this book, I’m not at all ashamed, I woke up every morning and checked to see if it came out yet (I’m terrible at paying attention to calendars). And the second it arrived on my kindle I sat down and read it from beginning to end. It was like the exact right book came to me at the exact right moment, I had been thinking about trying to find a book where the main character was in hiding. I also really like books where the main characters are neighbors (I’m thinking Neighbor Dearest right now). Anyway when we meet our leading lady she is in the middle of moving into a super sketchy apartment, having given all her money away to her sister and sold everything she owns. So basically she is poor, starting over, and hiding from her sister’s psychotic ex. Charlotte is really easy to like, I mean she gave up basically her whole life to make sure that her sister would be safe. It’s no surprise that she would be a good person. She’s sweet and nice, and a good neighbor. She works from home, has some serious artistic flare, which I appreciate, and she tries to make her life as cheerful as possible, and I liked that about her. Even though life had decidedly taken a turn, she still tries, even though its clear in several instances during the book that she is nervous that her sister’s ex is going […]

Ivan by Roxie Rivera

A while back I was super into mafia romances, and I made this huge list of mafia book series, and then I went and bought the first book in each of the series, this book was apart of that list. I don’t know why but I think Russian Mob actually appeals to me on some level more than all the other kinds of mobs, maybe its the language, it just sounds rough like it goes along with the subject matter. This is one of those books that starts with a dramatic occurrence and ends with one too. So Erin is a pretty nice girl, she has good friends, a job, she’s smart, and she’s a really good sister. Her sister on the other hand has fallen in with the wrong crowd, turned to drugs, and has gotten herself into more trouble then she really knows what to do with. And when her sister goes missing, well it’s not like anyone could be surprised about it. Erin is determined to make sure she finds her sister in one piece and gets her the help she needs. All Erin knows is who her sister has been hanging out with, and with that knowledge she knows she can only go to Ivan for help. Ivan I think is impressed with Erin’s just fearlessness to walk into his gym and ask him for help. I think he finds her innocence and determination appealing, in a way he was not exactly expecting. I’m not 100% […]

After the Hurt by Shana Gray

So there were elements of this book that really worked for me, and then elements that really didn’t. I will say the reason this appealed to me was because I seriously find MMA guys hot, and I love second chance romances. And honestly this book sounded like it might be a little darker or at least strong on the emotional components, which is way up my alley. So the gist of Pepper is that she was involved with Tank for a really long time, and they were in the process of opening up a restaurant together. When her mother passed away, everything really changed for her, she really kind of fell down a hole of depression and decided to just up and leave her life. She spent a great deal of time away and is now in back in town wanting to make things right with Tank and kind of putting her life back together. I really liked her, and I wish could put my finger on why I liked her so much, but I’m not really quite sure. I think part of it is that there have been more than one occasion where something has happen in my life and I just wanted to take a bit of time out somewhere else. But I think what made her work for me in the story was that she was really patient with how she handled Tank, I mean she knew she had hurt him so she made sure that he […]
