Jaded and Tyed by Penelope Ward

Okay normally I’m not someone who likes novellas, in fact I tend to kind of hate them. That being said, Penelope Ward must wield some kind of bizarre magic because she made me really enjoy a novella. I think it helps that I already had a lot of background information on the characters families from the book Neighbor Dearest, but honestly I didn’t think it was possible for me to feel emotionally connected to two characters whose story is so short. So Jade is Chelsea’s sister and Tyler is Damien’s sister, and honestly you won’t love this novella as much as I did unless you read Chelsea and Damien’s story first, so hurry up and buy that and read it. Any who Jade is very relatable. I mean she seems to be making terrible decisions about her love life, she’s dealing with the constant workload of being on broadway (seriously if you don’t know how much work goes into being a Broadway actor go look it up), and of course there is also the fact that her mom is sick and so she feels the constant pull of needing to be in two places, or rather two coasts, at once. So this book was 1 part long distance romance and 1 part figuring out figuring out where life is going to take the characters. I really liked the way the characters met, on a plane. I think we have all been there, getting on a plane full of strangers, sitting next to people who are you aren’t sure are going to get along with you: will they chew loudly, fall asleep on your shoulder, snore, be obnoxious, and the list goes on. Charli is our heroine and when she gets on the plane and sees Layton is going to be sitting next to her, she is more than a little bit judgmental. Layton is chubby, in a nerd t-shirt, and is a little on the friendly side, something Charli is in no way accustomed to. I really wanted to just Charli for being judgmental, but honestly I think we are all a little judgmental, so while I wish she wouldn’t have had snap judgments, I understood it. After a somewhat weird conversation, and finding out the two of them work in similar industries, they go their separate ways. A series of e-mails and the occasional meet up results in more conversations and encounters between the two of them. It was really easy for me to understand and like Charli, she’s inherently flawed, but she’s also in this […]
