Full disclosure, I don’t like ghosts. Like at all. I don’t watch horror movies, I hate all things ghosts (although in an urban fantasy I’m more open to them), but in general I don’t like ghosts. And this book for me was one of those happy accidents, because I didn’t pay much attention to the synopsis past it was two people who worked together and didn’t get along (I love love to hate romances), and when I opened to the first page and realized this was basically about ghost hunters, I was so worried I was going to hate it right off the bat. But as it turns out, I actually really enjoyed the book. I think for me, most times I find ghosts tend to come off as cheesy, or it borders too much on horror and I’m a wimp who can’t handle horror. But in this case, the ghosts had more depth then I was expecting, and the book as a whole was very character driven, Sammy and Cain are both complex characters who I enjoyed getting to know, so it worked for me. So I liked both of the main characters in this book a lot, which is super rare for me.
