A Star to Steer Her By by Beth Anne Miller

A Star to Steer Her By by Beth Anne Miller

I kind of wish there were more books coming out about the ocean, I mean sure there are books that take place in a tropical setting, and that’s nice and everything, but in the book the ocean is basically a character on its own, and I loved it. I spent a significant amount of time when I was growing up on an island, and my parents favorite form of family vacations was cruise ships, so it was really easy for me to fall in love with this book. And I have to say I’m pretty jealous of Ari and the experience she got to have. I’m not really one for sailing, probably because it’s not something I’ve ever done and lingo goes over my head, but the author did a great job explaining things but not making it overwhelming. Ari is going on this semester at sea experience, and she has been wanting to back out of it for some time, clearly when the book starts there is some sort of traumatic event that she is trying to get past, including what seems like a pretty substantial injury to her leg. It was so easy to like Ari right from the beginning, normally it takes me a minute to get to know a character and decide if I like them or love them, or whatever, but with Ari it was immediate. She’s complex and interesting, and sad but strong, she’s so easy to love and kind of identify with that […]

Fake Fiancee by Ilsa Madden-Mills

I’m a big fan of Ilsa, I mean I think I have read Dirty English like twenty times by now and Filthy English was awesome too, so I was super excited when I heard about this book. I also have a tendency to really love the whole fake relationship dynamic too, plus add in some college backdrop and I am more then happy to jump right in and get lost in this book. So when we meet Sunny right off the bat you know that she hasn’t exactly had the easiest life, she’s running away from home when we meet her in the prologue, and the way she is running you know life has been hard. When the book really starts though she is well into college, just like Max is. Sunny has sworn off jocks after her last boyfriend cheated, and Max is not looking for anything other then football especially since his last girlfriend faked a pregnancy to trap him. I have to admit I love the way these two met, I mean having a groupie crash into your parked car and drive off so you have to go next door to your neighbor and demand her information is kind of a hilarious meet cute. I liked how stand up of a guy Max was, right off the bat willing to help her or even pay for the damage (granted he just really wanted to keep him image clean because he really wanted the Heisman). But you could […]

Wrong by Jana Aston

I wish I could fully explain why I loved this book as much as I did, but seriously I really did love this book. I picked up this book because the blurb on the back basically explained that the girl has a big crush on an older guy who happens to end up being her doctor. I don’t know why, but this totally worked for me, also the cover is so great, I love the bold colors. I’m kind of addicted to the whole older man storyline, I love it in books, I wish it was done more often. So when you meet Sophie she is kind of a contradiction, she seems to be pretty mature on the outside, working her way through college, but on the other hand she is also a little bit on the naive side as well. She’s had a series of unfortunate relationships, and she finally thinks she is getting someone with this one guy, which of course means that it is time to make an appointment to go to the health clinic on campus. Enter the older guy she has a crush on, who also happens to be the guy who is going to examine her south of the border. That whole scene is kind of hilarious, and I loved it, I knew after reading that scene and how it all played out that I was going to really enjoy reading this book. Luke is our older guy, and I loved him. He’s just […]

Undeniable by Micalea Smeltzer

I had high hopes for this book, largely because I’m kind of a huge fan of the whole best friends little sister thing, and I love when two people have to hide their relationship from others. So when we meet Karlie and Holden things aren’t exactly what I would call romantic. There is an age gap between the two of them and while Karlie definitely has a thing for Holden, he is a bit on the stand offish side with her. Until of course we find out that it is because he is has a thing for her too. Karlie is young, and lives with her older brother, and to say she is babied by her older brother would probably be a huge understatement. In fact I had a big problem with the way that Karlie allows for the people in her life to baby her. She’s might be young, but she’s an adult, so I mean why would she allow her brother to continue treating her like she was a child. I did like that she did go for what she wanted with Holden though, I mean she clearly wanted him, and even though she knew that it was a situation that her brother would not approve of, she went for it anyways. Of course this whole thing doesn’t play out the way either of them expected. I don’t want to ruin it with a spoiler, but let’s just put it this way, something horrible happened, everyone found out […]

Beautiful Broken Rules by Kimberly Lauren

Beautiful Broken Rules by Kimberly Lauren

Every once in a while I pick up a book from Kindle Unlimited that I completely totally love, this was one of those books. I loved this book from beginning to end, there was just so much going on that I liked, that I was beyond happy I rented this book. First things first, I love a good college romance, and more than that I love when the characters actually feel like real people who actually go to college, and not some super nice, clean cut version of what people really are. Life is messy, people are flawed, and I love when books put that up front and in your face. Emerson is the culmination of so many girls I knew when I was in my early 20s. She’s flawed, she has painful history, both her parents dying on the same day in a car accident after being long divorced (read between the lines here), oh and did I mention it was her birthday. Needless to say she doesn’t really believe in relationships, not just because she doesn’t trust them, but because the idea of letting anyone get too close and having to endure that kind of heartbreak again, it just not something she can handle. I like how up front she was about her rules, about how she has sleep with quite a few people and has no real intention of stopping, but mostly I liked her actual relationships with people, her sister Quinn and her best friend Cole, […]

Undecided by Julianna Keyes

I was actually pretty stoked about this book, because I really do enjoy romances that take place during college. Not only that though, Nora appealed to me because she made some prior mistakes while she was in college, and now she is trying to set her life straight and get to where she wants to be. Plus the blurb alluded to a secret, and I am a big fan of secrets. So when the book starts you meet Nora, who is really a great character, I liked her a lot. She’s finishing up summer school and is looking for a new place to live, she needs to be on the straight and narrow this year, save money, get good grades and not lose her scholarship. Last year, she got into some legal trouble, drank too much, partied to hard, and played it a little fast and loose. This year is going to be different for her though. Of course that’s when she goes to meet her potential roommate, and he’s someone who is well, let’s just say she knows him rather intimately. Crosbie is Nora’s new roommate’s best friend, and can I just say I really totally loved him. I am not one hundred percent sure about why I enjoyed him so much, I think it’s because he was a bit of contradiction, he has this reputation of being a ladies man, the guy who is with a different girl every night of the week. His reputation basically makes him […]

The Lie by Karina Halle

The Lie by Karina Halle

Full disclosure, I am 100% obsessed with Karina Halle, she’s written one of my all time favorite books so every time I see that she has a new book out, I always jump at the chance to read it. I’ve never been a huge fan of the whole teacher/student dynamic, but given who the author was I decided to go ahead and give this one a go. I am so glad I did, this book was everything I could have wanted in a book. So this is the sometimes incredibly painful, although sometimes incredibly wonderful relationship between Brigs and Natasha. So when the story starts and we meet our main characters, they are both in the process of getting their lives back together. Natasha is back at school trying for her graduate degree after taking a long break from, well, life. And Brigs is finally picking himself up off the ground and trying to move beyond his grief by getting into some kind of normal routine, eating regularly, going to work, working out, and basically just going through the movements. You see once upon a time Natasha and Brigs met and fell in love with each other only Brigs was married, and then the unthinkable happened, a car accident claimed the life of both his wife and his son. The result of the death was basically that these two people basically imploded and their relationship never stood a chance of living through the fallout. I liked both of the characters in […]

Anything More Than Now by Rebecca Paula

To be one hundred percent honest, I was in way shape or form prepared for this book. I don’t know why but I went in thinking, oh this is a college romance, this should be a fun hate to love situation with a side of forbidden romance, but man oh man, this book was so much more than that. This book was truly heartbreaking in more than one spot, I found myself hoping that either one of the characters would just catch a break, I mean a little ray of sunshine could go a long way for one or both of them. So while I wasn’t completely prepared for the way this book book just pulled at my emotions (and wrecked me in parts), it was a good emotional read for me, I really did like this book. So when the book starts you meet Reagan and Noah, Reagan is a senior and Noah is a junior in college. Noah has had a thing for Reagan from the first time he looked at her, but she is soooo off limits to him, after all Reagan is the ex-girlfriend of Noah’s best friend. Honestly for me, it’s kind of like the two of them have always been at the very least attracted to each other, and in an effort to keep from acting on it, they just pick at each other. They have kind of this great hateful banter between the two of them and it just kind of works. For […]

Dolce by Rachel Blaufeld

I am a big fan of Rachel Blaufeld, and when I pick up one of her books I am always excited because I know it’s going to be a good read. I read the first book in this series, and I enjoyed it a whole lot. That being said, you don’t have to read the first book to read this book, because this is several years in the future from the first one, and with a whole new cast of characters (although you do get some glimpses into the old characters). So, I went into this book really wanted to love it, but for me, honestly, I just didn’t get into this book like I do most of her books, which makes me a little sad. So the premise of the book is that two people are brought together while going to the same school, they have one guy in common, the shock jock Sonny. Cate is Sonny’s intern, and Blane is kind of friends with Sonny, and goes on the show because he is one of the star basketball players at this college. I wasn’t so much of a fan of any of the characters. But I will start with Sonny, Sonny, the shock jock, well I don’t know what to make of him honestly, especially in the beginning. He kind of comes off as the world’s biggest d-bag. I mean he treats Cate badly, takes some glee in putting his friends out there for public consumption, he just […]

Beyond What Is Given by Rebecca Yarros

This book is so heartbreaking! Oh my gosh, I felt for every one of the characters in this book, it was like none of them could catch a break, and the great thing about this book is that no one in this story is a bad guy, there is no villain, it’s just a bunch of good people in a really hard situation. I can’t imagine being in any one of these people’s shoes, and I have to say I loved reading this story from beginning to end. So Sam moves in with some old friends of hers basically being kicked out of her old college (due to some serious lapses in judgement, I would go into more detail but I don’t really want to ruin it). Anyway, she is all set to go to a new college, until like right before school is suppose to start they send her a letter saying upon further review they won’t be allowing her into the college. I felt so bad for her, she made on mistake, and in the end her future becomes up in the air. But what I really loved about Sam is that after some great talks with Grayson, she is able to really focus on getting her life back in order, making a name for herself, and I loved that about. I also have to say that her friendship with Avery was so great to read, how she would encourage her and give her advice, and showed up when […]
