True Deceptions by Veronica Forand

I really like my romances to have a touch of suspense, and I really like books with spies in them, so when I saw that this book was about MI6, and looked like it was full of suspense, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. I also kind of really liked the idea of the tortured hero, early on in the book you realize how jaded Simon is, and really how much he doesn’t want to be involved in that world anymore, but how he is being really forced back into it. So I really have mixed feelings about this book. It’s like it had all the elements that it needed for me to like the book, but it just didn’t work for me. Really I think it kind of comes down to Cassie, she never really worked for me, and I never bonded with her as a character so it made it hard for me to be invested in the story. So Cassie is a smart girl, she has some really strong specialties that should make her an asset, she’s also an attractive girl. But she is also amazingly naive. She is in no way shape or form prepared to be out in the field with Simon (the actual spy), and I am honestly amazed that they didn’t all just die.
