I really liked the first book in this series, so when I saw the sequel I knew it was going to be a book I picked up. This is definitely a stand alone book, but because I liked the first book so much, I recommend you reading that one, but it’s not necessary. So in this series the recurring theme is military guys returning from the war, and the baggage that they bring back with them. In this book it brings in some family dynamics as well, which I am honestly not sure helped the book all that much. So our hero and heroine have met before, Alia and Nate met at a picnic thrown by a mutual friend, and in an effort to make her sister happy Alia basically just kind of shoved them together. Things didn’t work out with Nate and Alia’s sister because of some serious non-honesty on Alia and her sisters part, so I totally understand why Nate and Alia aren’t exactly on good terms when he shows up at the rehab place where Alia is trying to get a job years later. Honestly, my biggest issue with this book is our heroine, Alia. It’s clear she is a great physical therapist, who really wants to improve the lives of her clients, but she takes mothering to an extreme when it comes to her sister. I mean the way she thinks about her sister, like her happiness is Alia’s responsibility, and how she sometimes talks about […]

I have to admit I was a tiny bit on the fence about this book. The reason why this book appealed to me in the first place is because I like the idea of people starting over, mainly because it is such a hard thing to do. Truth be told I was interested in the whole revenge aspect that it seemed like the synopsis was pointing towards. I mean the way that the synopsis portrayed Kincaid, with a score to settle, he seemed a lot more like a man out for revenge then he did in the story. So first I guess I wanna talk about Lily. I liked Lily, she seems like a nice person, and she also really comes across as really nurturing. She is living with her sister after a bad breakup, and she is saving up money to move back to Chicago where she can go back to pursuing her dream of being a chef. But her ex did a real number on her, making her feel really ashamed of the things that she likes in bed. That whole thing made me feel really sad for her, for someone to make you feel guilty about something so personal is just so wrong, and you could tell it really effected her confidence. As for Kincaid, well I was expecting something completely different that’s for sure. He was much sweeter and more gentle then I was expecting in his personality. I obviously think he was in a tough […]

I do like a good second chance book, and I was more than happy to pick up this book since it had a military theme. I was actually a little worried at the beginning of the book that I wasn’t going to enjoy it as much as I thought because when it started out it looked a little harsh, but I was pleasantly surprised how well everything came together and how much I enjoyed it. So I have to admit that I haven’t read a lot of secret baby themed books, and it turns out I actually really liked this one. Mira and Jake were seeing each other briefly before Jake when and deployed, and after Jake left, Mira found out she was pregnant. Mira did try to get a hold of Jake, but he had such a common name, and it turns out she had the wrong first name too since he went by a nickname, but never ended up finding him. I was actually really glad that Mira tried so hard to find him, mainly because it made me respect her, it’s not like she went out of her way to keep the secret. More than that though the minute she runs into Jake eight years later, she tells him right away. She doesn’t ask him for anything, or expect anything, just wanted to let him be apart of their son Sam’s life. I really loved that about her. I think the other thing I really enjoyed about […]
