The Bitches of Brooklyn by Rosemary Harris

I think this book had a lot of potential but it just didn’t end up being as great as I thought it would. I thought that the premise of the book was great, a bunch of women friends getting together for their yearly vacation, only to find out that one of this is not just a no show, but she also ran off with one of the other women’s husband. I really love books that deal with friendships between women, so I really thought this book would be right up my alley. Right off the bat I felt like the book started of slowly. The writing style didn’t jump out at me and grab my attention. I actually found the narration a little bit on the jump side, which actually made it even more difficult to connect with the characters in the story. And for me without a strong connection with at least a couple of the characters, I find it hard to get invested in the plot, which I think is why this book just didn’t click for me. The book did end up having a lot more of a suspenseful plot than I was originally expecting. And I will admit that about halfway through the book the pace picked up and the suspenseful element really helped me like the book a bit more.
