I am such a huge fan of Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite characters in the urban fantasy world. There is just something about the character that completely works for me, she’s both strong and kicks ass while at the same time being a kind and gentle person to the people she cares about. I was pretty excited about this book, and I totally wish Briggs would write these books faster (although focusing on quality versus quantity is A-ok with me too). In this book we finally get to meet Christy, the ex from Adam’s past, at this point we have heard a lot about her, but without ever being able to paint much of a picture of her. Christy pulls out all the stops to get in between Mercy and Adam, and well really to manipulate everyone around her into feeling sorry for her and giving her everything she could possibly want. I wasn’t sure exactly how Mercy would handle the situation, but I should have had more faith because she handles it in typical Mercy fashion, firm when she needs to be but kind whenever possible. The big bad in this book was also a really interesting choice. As the series continues, Briggs really starts to expand on Mercy’s background and the Native American mythology that comes along with it.
