Heart Like Mine by Maggie McGinnis

So this book appealed to me because it just sounded like a set up for two people to be antagonist to each other. I mean you have Delaney being assigned to cut the budget of the pediatric department, and you have Joshua being the head of the pediatric department. Plus you know it sounded like Joshua is one of those guys who devoted his life to kids, and to me that’s kind of hot in a guy. So the first thing I noticed about the book was that the characters were pretty well developed, and they were both really easy to like and pull for. I liked how quickly I took to the characters, and I liked how the situation pulled both of them together. Delaney I liked a lot because she was really interesting, I mean she ended up basically doing the accounting for the hospital because even though she has a medical background with her dad and hospital in general, she found that it was a career for her. And Joshua, well he was just so easy to like. I mean this guy spends his life taking care of sick kids, and even when he isn’t suppose to be at work, he spends his time doing the nicest things for his patients, like sitting up with them and rocking them all night long. Joshua is just a really nice, good guy, and he wants what is best for his patients. While I liked both of these characters individually, they […]

Once Upon a Cowboy by Maggie McGinnis

I love this series, I loved the book just before this one, so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it. I have to admit in Hayley’s book I was super interested in what was going to happen with Jess and Cole, they seem to avoid acting on the attraction that they have for each other, which can only mean pent up tension and a great payoff at the end. So Jess was super interesting to me. She has more of a past then the other two women in this series, Kyla and Hayley, so in a lot of ways she was more interesting to me then the others were. She has such a hard history, her past is so sad, you can’t help but feel for the her and especially for the girl she used to be living in an impossible situation. I will say that I love her grandfather for doing the best he could, he really saved her. So while you get told Jess’s past in flashbacks throughout the book, her past is certainly not in the past, when the book starts and she is heading out for Hayley’s wedding, her past suddenly shows up in her mailbox. Cole in an interesting character. He is of course the hot cowboy that you remember from the other books in the series, but you finally get a good glimpse at him in this book. He’s dealing with a lot in his head, but he is […]

A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis

Another veterinary romance, throw in some Christmas spirit, and cowboys and I’m sold. I don’t know why but I’m not normally a huge fan of the widow/widower storyline, but it worked for me in this one, I think because I really liked Daniel and his two young daughters. So Hayley is in town for a wedding, but normally she lives in the big city where she takes care of the world’s most pampered pets, which it turns out isn’t really her favorite clientele. Hayley meet Daniel, who is also a vet, but a rural country vet, the kind of vet Hayley wishes she could have been. The two of them have a connection decently quick, and it turns out Hayley is able to really help Daniel out, since he’s got a lot going on in his life. But she lives far away, and he’s in the middle of a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin girls. Needless to say they have some obstacles in their relationship. I really loved that Hayley takes so well to Daniel’s daughter. You could tell how much she wanted them to like her, and she tries so hard to make sure that they do like her and she does right by them. She’s just genuinely a nice girl. I loved some of the scenes she and Daniel have together with animals, when she’s helping him out. I thought that the two of them got some of there best get to know you talks […]
