So this is book three in the series, and I have to say I was a little bit surprised at the direction this book took. But first I want to kind of talk about the series. So in the first two books we are learning more about Scorpion but it focuses mostly on the James brothers and their hometown of Mercy (hence the series name). There is kind of a multi book story arc that starts in book one with their investigation into a terrorist organization, and let me tell you, I really enjoy that storyline, it was so suspenseful and just great to read. So when we entered into this book I was really expecting the book to continue on with the storyline and answer some questions that were left unknown from the second book, and most importantly I really thought this book would start out in Mercy. But this book was about a the Crowe brothers, and it starts off in their hometown, with a whole new set of circumstances, backstory, and a lot of new and complex people and situations to deal with. So the reason why I gave this book a three star rating really comes down to just personal preferences, and honestly it is nothing against the author, because I really do like her writing and her ability to write excited storylines. But the book starts off in like backwoods mountain hillbilly area, and the characters all talk and act in a dialect I just […]

So if you have read this first book in the series, you could kind of guess that the second book was going to be about Ranger and Amy. Although you kind of new it was going to be a hard relationship, and more than a little heartbreaking. So in the first book, a member of Ranger’s secret military task force died, and he happened to be Ranger’s best friend and Amy’s husband. Of course Ranger has been harboring his feelings for Amy for a super long time, but he was always respectful of his friend’s marriage, except now he is gone… So Amy is so heartbreaking to read. She is really broken at the beginning of the book, actually that might be wrong, she’s more like frozen. She’s decided not to engage in any of her feelings about the death of her husband, or the fact that Shane never knew about their daughter Chloe, let alone got the chance to meet her. Amy is just going through the motions, it’s been months since her husband died, and she still can’t open herself up emotionally. The problem is she has always had feelings for Ranger, and she doesn’t want to feel like she is betraying her husband’s memory, also Shane’s mother is a vile woman who has made numerous threats, so Amy doesn’t want to rock the boat, especially because of Chloe. I liked Amy, there are few moments where I worried she was going to be a weak character, but man […]

So this book appealed to me for a couple of reason: I love books with military guys (they are just super hot and I love a guy who can handle himself and protect the people he cares about), I really like books with a thriller/suspense element to it, I love books where the main characters have a past together, especially when that relationship didn’t end on the best of terms, and lastly, I love books where there is an element of revenge involved. So when the book starts its seriously kind of heartbreaking. Hunter is our hero and he is a member of a special ops teams, and in the middle of a mission he ends up losing one of his guys, and you can tell the whole thing is just so hard for him. Especially since he was injured and he can’t go back out to look for his guy. So while he is recovering, half of his team gets sent back to Hunter’s hometown, there is intel saying the attack and the weapons smuggling they were investigating is coming from back there, and omg his ex might be involved. When the book starts, Hunter has a lot of anger built up, and he isn’t really looking forward to spending time with Evie, but he is looking forward to getting some kind of payback on her, on taking her down, both for justice as well as kind of payback for her cheating on him. I actually liked Hunter, you […]
