I really tend to enjoy books about best friends ending up together, so I was decently excited about this book, especially because the blurb told me that their marriage was one of convenience, just something that kind of happened, so I was definitely intrigued. Unfortunately, I just didn’t enjoy the book was much as I was hoping for. The main character in the book, and the person whose POV the story is told through is Cate. Cate never seems to recover from her mother abandoning her and her father, and then when she is a teenager she finds out her mother has died and it turns out she had a whole new family. It crushed Cate and she went through a dark time in her life, full of depression and bad decision making, especially when it comes to men. When things finally start to turn around for her it’s because she ends up pregnant by her best friend (who she slept with after her and her boyfriend broke up). Turns out her best friend, Nick, loved her since he was a kid, and wants to marry her, even though he knows that she doesn’t love him. And basically the whole first half of the book is like that, Cate comes off as an incredibly selfish person and you can’t help but feel bad for Nick.
