Take This Man by Kelli Maine

So this is the conclusion to the series, which has three books prior to this novella, and this novella is really just an epilogue to the series, so it’s not really a novella I would recommend to anyone who hadn’t read the books prior to this, you are going to be missing out on way to much character development to actually appreciate the novella. Personally, I felt like as an epilogue (which is really what this novella is) is kind of overkill, I think it would have been a great tail end of the last book, but as a novella I think it’s a bit overkill. There is very little character development in this story, and more than that everything that happens in this novella is one hundred predictable, it’s the ended everyone who has read the series would expect for Merrick and Rachael. I really didn’t fall in love with the series, so I wasn’t invested enough in the characters to really enjoy this installment the way a person who enjoyed the series would. I had a hard time connecting with the characters in the books prior to this, I felt like they just didn’t act in a authentic manner, but I can see how this conclusion works. Full disclosure, this book is book three in a series, and I haven’t read books one and two, so it’s very possible that someone who is more attached to the characters might have more appreciation for this book. First things first, I like the writing style, I think that’s what had me enjoying most of the book. It’s easy to read, and Kelli does have the ability to keep you interested in what is going to happen next. Honestly, my biggest problem with the book was that I felt this book should have been a novella. It was just far to long for the plot line it had going throughout the book. I think it would have been a much more exciting, dramatic novella then it is a book. Because the book felt too long, it did at times feel like it was dragging, which can be a hard thing for me to overcome. Also I think a big problem with the length of the book came from the sex scenes, don’t get me wrong sex scenes are nice to have, but when they happen as often as they did in this book they lose so much of their impact, and start becoming repetitive. I had a hard time liking Rachael, on one hand I could see where she was coming from but on the other I thought she was […]
