Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson

I’ve read a few books of Jill Sorenson’s before, and I liked both, so I went into this book fairly certain that I was going to enjoy this book as well. Part of what appealed to me about this book is that it involved the hero in the story just getting out of prison. I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to feel about him, how the author was going to handle the reintegration back into society by this young man. Plus I liked the forbidden romance aspect of it all, our hero is not suppose to be involved with our heroine, but yet they can’t seem to help it. So first off, I want to start with Meghan. I didn’t really love her. She really is not the reason I like the book. She was remarkable self-aware, but at the same time consistently acted against her own interests. For example, when the book begins she is not a good relationship, she knows she is not in a good relationship, she is not suffering from low self-esteem, and is perfectly aware of her options, but yet stays in the bad relationship. Not for love, which I think I may have been more understanding of, but because she wants to avoid the man she does love. She’s a good friend to her best friend Kelsea, and she seems to be a rather good sister. But honestly, she drove me bananas. At the end there was more than one moment when […]

I really love MC books, I blame Madeline Sheehan for that, so anytime there is an MC book out there with a good description I’m all for it. A couple of things stood out for me in the synopsis, the first was that Mia is working as a psychologist with the police and she has big plans for Cole, using him to get back at the people who killed her husband and changed her life forever. I liked the whole elements of Cole being stuck between his loyalty to the MC and the cops who want him to be an informant. So first up I will start with Mia. I really felt for her, she went through a horrible ordeal with the event that took the life of her husband and landed her with a new identity and being in the witness protection program. I mean talk about losing everything in one fell swoop. I had a lot of respect for the fact that she had picked up her life and started over and has a career as a forensic psychologist. I also really liked that she had a revenge plan because of love books about revenge, they always make things interesting and heighten the drama in the book. Cole was definitely not what I was expecting, yes he has that whole alpha guy thing going for him, but he wasn’t really like a lot of the MC guys I have read before. I think that’s probably because he didn’t […]

Stranded With Her Ex by Jill Sorenson

I have to admit that I love second chance romances, even more so when the couple in question used to be married, I don’t know why but I love it when two people who used to be married can find the way back to each other, especially when its clear that the two people in question were truly in love with each other. This book fit perfectly into that, not just that though it had a great element of mystery to it that I really enjoyed and I’m a sucker for anyone who holds animals close to their hearts, so this book was an easy sell for me. So Daniela and Sean got divorced after a seriously horrible tragedy befell them and they were unable to deal with it. It’s a heartbreaking situation, and there truly are no bad guys in this situation, which makes it all the more easy to pull for these two to be able to find their way back to each other. The two of them hadn’t seen each other since the divorce but they both end up on the same remote island doing research (her work is with sea lions and his with sharks). It’s clear from the beginning that the two of them are uncomfortable with the situation, and in the beginning I totally didn’t like how adamant Sean was that Daniela not be allowed to stay on island. I understand that he was trying to look out for her, but I didn’t like […]
