Step-brother romances really seem to be the thing right now, don’t get me wrong I do enjoy some of them, and some of them not so much. This one unfortunately fell into the not so much category for me. So in this book while Lily and Jackson are step-siblings, they didn’t grow up together, spent very little time together because Jackson took off, and when the book starts they haven’t seen each other in like seven years. So there isn’t much of a family relationship dynamic going on with these two. Their story is kind of a second chance romance, Lily and Jackson shared one kiss a long time ago, and where Lily’s dad walked in on them, Jackson was kicked out and never looked back. Lily did write Jackson a lot over the years but he never engaged with her, even though the letters meant a lot to him. So Jackson is back in his hometown after being injured in the military, which is the last place he wants to be. After running into Lily, she invited him to move in with her and he accepts. Of course this is just a recipe for the impending hook up. Jackson was likable for the most part. I get how and why he wanted to get away from his mother and stepfather, his mother is honestly horrible to him.
