Whisper to Me by Christina Lee

This is book three in Lee’s Between Breaths series, and I remember reading book 1 and I remember liking Lee’s writing style and the story overall, so when the chance to read this book came up, I jumped at it, and I am so glad I did. For me, I felt Whisper to Me blew All of You out of the water, okay that may be an overstatement, but I absolutely loved this book and if Lee keeps writing like this then she has a fan for life. Lee’s first book, All of You, was a really good debut novel in my opinion, and I love reading authors as they evolve, the writing almost always gets better, and Lee proved that to be true with Whisper to Me. I feel in love with this book, hook, line, and sinker. This was a big plus to me, because with the amount of books I read it’s rare that I get to read something that is out of the so-called norm. Avery and Bennett both come from bad family lives, some really bad family lives. Bennett and Avery’s respective mothers both have some serious parenting issues. Both moms have a tendency to, let’s say, play the field, in a manner that does not do well for their parenting abilities. This whole dynamic has led to Bennett deciding not to have sex with anyone until he knows for sure he is in love with them. Avery has kind of the opposite reaction, she decides that she can sleep with me and use them just for physical reasons, just like all the men who passed through her family’s front door, were just using her mother. That being said Avery also has some had things in her past in addition to her mother, and I don’t want to give it away, but let’s say it’s completely understandable why Avery is a bit damaged. What I took away most from both of these characters family lives is that the two of them are there for their siblings whenever they are needed, and that they are more like parents to their younger siblings, which just shows […]
