I’m a big fan of tortured characters getting their second chances at love and life, so this book definitely fit into my kind of book category. I liked the synopsis of the book because I liked that Poppy sounded like a strong woman who was independent and willing to put the work into making her dream come true, I like strong women in romance novels. I was also looking forward to unraveling to mystery of Ryan. So when the book started I had to say that I was a little put off by Poppy, her inner monologue was basically a constant stream of “I am a single mother and therefore can’t do/feel anything”. But on the plus side she was optimistic about her life, and even in the face of bad things happening to her life (the cabins she was trying to repair for her livelihood were constantly coming up with new things that needed to be fixed, and a tree basically destroys her house and car) but she still is optimistic about her plans and her life, she is just completely unwilling to let life get her down, and I love that about her. As the book goes on I really started to like her a lot more, especially after she finds out about Ryan’s tragedy and she is super awesome with him. Ryan is such a sad guy.
