Angela Dennis Guest Post

I’m glad to welcome Angela Dennis to HLB for a guest post, and I was actually really excited about her post because it mixes two of my favorite things, books and music. I always love when authors put a soundtrack list in their books so I am more than happy to share this guest post with my readers! Fading Light releases today so be sure to go and pick up your copy ASAP! Thanks so much to Kate for the invite! I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to do a guest post today. Music has always been an integral part of my life. Having learned to play the piano as a toddler, I’ve been a musician basically since I could walk. I can’t imagine a world without melodies, and I can’t imagine any of my books being written without a soundtrack. I often get asked about my writing process, what environment I like to write in…etc. Well, the foundation of my writing process begins and ends with music. So here is the playlist for my upcoming release Fading Light. Enjoy! Eminem (featuring Pink) – Won’t Back Down Rihanna – What Now Bastille – Pompeii Imagine Dragons – It’s Time Elle Goulding – Only You Imagine Dragons – Radioactive Pink – Blow Me One Last Kiss A Great Big World –Say Something The Killers – Human (this song is in every playlist I make J ) Elle Goulding –Burn Of Monsters and Men –Dirty Paws Mumford and Sons – The Cave Dave […]

Fading Light by Angela Dennis

I used to read a lot more urban fantasy that I do now, I cut back when I felt like the story lines were starting to meld together and felt in some ways repetitive. I’m not sure what exactly it was about Angela Dennis’s first book, Shadows of Fate, that made me want to read it in spite of my dire need to UF break, but something about it called to me, and I’m glad cause I loved it. After thinking about it for a while the reason I like this series is largely because it feels like fresh air to me, in a way it reminds me of Amanda Bonilla’s UF series, they both have unique elements within them that make there feel like something new and exciting in a genre that sometimes feels overrun with too much of the same. Needless to say I liked the sequel almost as much as I liked the first book. So part of what makes the book/series so good to me is the partnership between Brenna and Gray. Yes there is romance between them, and a lot of love, but more than that they really do work at their best only when they are together. Gray said it best when he said their magic complements each other, when they are fighting side by side they are just better than they would be on their own. I loved that about them. There is no lesser partner. Also I love that the two of […]

10 Questions with Gray Warlow

Thanks to Angela Dennis for joining us here on Home.Love.Books. for our new feature, “10 Questions”. For this feature the questions will never changes, but who’s answering them will: the characters from your favorite books will be visiting the site to give you just a little bit more insight into what really makes them tick. So without further ado, here is Gray Warlow from Angela Dennis’s book Shadows of Fate. Q: What is the one thing you never leave the house without and why. A: I never leave the house without my katana strapped to my back.  The Earthly plane is a demonic playground.  You never know what’s going to attack. Q: What is the number one item on your birthday wish list? A: Aside from Brenna with a big red bow around her neck?  Am I allowed to say that?  What’s the rating for this blog? Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve? A: I hate it when people aren’t straightforward.  Just tell me what you think.  I don’t have time to beat it out of you. Q: What’s your favorite book? A: The Council wrote a treatise on warfare.  It’s too bad you can’t get it on the Earthly plane. Q: What’s your go to song to get your amped up? A:  *Grinning*  I have my own battle cry.  Does that count? Q: You walk into a pet store, what animal would you bring home and why? A: Not sure what a pet store is, but I wouldn’t mind having […]

Shadows of Fate by Angela Dennis

So the biggest problem I had when it came time to review this book was trying to decide if I liked it or I loved it, which is always a good sign. This was easily one of those books that I want to sit in one place for a few hours, have no one disturb me, and just submerge myself into the world and the characters and escape for a while. I genuinely enjoyed the book from beginning to end. A couple of things stood out to me as I read the book. The first thing was at the very beginning, it starts with Brenna’s point of view, and then she meets Gray. I knew I was going to like Gray, not sure how I knew but I knew I would. As the writing progressed I remember thinking in my head, “I really hope Angela includes Gray’s point of view too, it would make the book so much better”. Three pages later bam there was Gray’s point of view. I think the story could have been told in only one POV, but having both just made it so much better, gave everyone so much more depth, and, well, made me happy. Brenna as a character just works for me. She’s got a tough exterior, but on the inside she’s a bit on the tortured side. She’s strong, but loyal. She has a great moral compass. There were several times throughout the book where she could have taken the easy route of […]
