Miss Fix-It by Emma Hart

Miss Fix-It by Emma Hart

I’m a big fan of flipping around gender roles, I hate when people assume what sex a person should be just based on what their job title is. So I liked the idea behind Miss Fix-It, that our girl is a contractor, and a pretty good one it seems. I also liked how our guy is the single dad, it always seems when its one parent doing the vast majority of the parenting it’s always the mom, so it’s good to see a dad doing it all but also being really good at it. I will say I was expecting this book to be more rom-com than it was. I love Emma Hart’s work, and she has the best humor in her books. And her characters always have the greatest little quirks. Her Holly Woods Files series had great humor even though it was about murders, and some of her others are just a 100% laugh along rom-com. This was more sweet to me, and like all the humor came from the kids, kind of reminiscent of the Burke Brothers series and Mila, except in this book it’s twins so it’s double the trouble. When Kali meets Brantley she is super attracted to him, and I think it’s pretty clear he is attracted to her as well. But Kali isn’t really looking for a built in family, I mean she has big hang ups about it. And I think for Brantley, he more rusty than anything. His wife died, but […]

Lust by Emma Hart

I don’t know why, but I didn’t think I was going to super love this book. I knew I was going to like it, I really love Emma’s writing style and she has a fabulous sense of humor. But for some reason, I thought this book wasn’t going to be over the top awesome, I think it was pair up of prostitute and detective on the anti-prostitute task force, it seemed so opposite it was almost cliche. But as I read I really, really liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The characters in the book are so much deeper than the one line career description lets on, and they had a lot of moments that really pulled out the emotional stops. Perrie, if you read the previous book in the series, is Damien Fox’s sister, estranged sister. She comes from super, mega money, but was basically banished to the outside when she turned up pregnant. So she’s a single mom of a 7 year old, Lola, she lives in a not so nice neighborhood, and she has sex for money. I think what sets her apart from the idea of what a prostitute is going to be like, is how she really is just a normal mom, who wants to put food on the table, and make her kid live in a world that’s as good as she came make it. It’s pointed out many times in the book how her house looks like it doesn’t […]

SIN by Emma Hart

SIN by Emma Hart

First off, I kind of new this book was going to be awesome, because from just the blurb you knew you had too characters at odds with each other, it’s set in Vegas (land of fun times), and honestly, it’s Emma Hart, so you can’t go wrong. I have to say right up front that the banter between our main characters just made the book so fantastic, it made for a great, fun read. The banter reminded me a lot of the banter you saw in Holly Woods Files, it was sometimes funny, always amusing, charged with sexual tension, occasionally heartwarming, basically my cup of tea. Dahlia is our oh so lovely heroine, and when we meet her she is just back Vegas after losing her father. It’s time for her to go back to running the family business, a bar in Las Vegas that is book themed. Can we just stop right there are make unbelievably clear that if this bar existed near me I would be there all the time. I have to say that Emma did a great job with painting a picture of what the bar looks like, I mean I felt like I could picture the bar in my head, and it is just such a cool idea. I liked Dahlia a lot, she’s smart, well educated, clearly a good boss, seems like she was a good daughter, and she’s got the perfect amount of sassy and sarcasm, I liked how she held her own. […]

Wicked Charming by Nazarea Andrews

I love books that kind of retell fairytales, I kind of adore fairytales, so modern interpretations of them make me super happy. When I read the blurb about this one, and how all the male fairytale characters seem to have opened up a BDSM club together, well to say my interest was peeked would be an understatement. So the first book in this series focusing on the Prince Charming character. He’s heir to a huge pharmaceutical empire, but he is totally not down with that becoming his life. He loves being part owner of the Kingdom, although he has been feeling a tad bit restless, but being a corporate guy, so not his thing. Charming is kind of looking to maybe settle down, or rather find himself a submissive who doesn’t bore him before the scene is even over, so when he takes a liking to one of the bartenders at the club, things really start to shift for him. I hate to admit it, but I had a hard time getting into this book, it wasn’t so much the story or the subject matter, but the nicknames. Each guy has a nickname, Charming, Wolf, Beast, etc, and they also have real names too, like Charming is Samul Charming, which wasn’t too hard to catch on to, but some of the others were. And the name are used to often and interchangeable in the beginning that it was a bit much for me. Maybe I’m just terrible at names. Now […]

Fake Fiancee by Ilsa Madden-Mills

I’m a big fan of Ilsa, I mean I think I have read Dirty English like twenty times by now and Filthy English was awesome too, so I was super excited when I heard about this book. I also have a tendency to really love the whole fake relationship dynamic too, plus add in some college backdrop and I am more then happy to jump right in and get lost in this book. So when we meet Sunny right off the bat you know that she hasn’t exactly had the easiest life, she’s running away from home when we meet her in the prologue, and the way she is running you know life has been hard. When the book really starts though she is well into college, just like Max is. Sunny has sworn off jocks after her last boyfriend cheated, and Max is not looking for anything other then football especially since his last girlfriend faked a pregnancy to trap him. I have to admit I love the way these two met, I mean having a groupie crash into your parked car and drive off so you have to go next door to your neighbor and demand her information is kind of a hilarious meet cute. I liked how stand up of a guy Max was, right off the bat willing to help her or even pay for the damage (granted he just really wanted to keep him image clean because he really wanted the Heisman). But you could […]

Only for You by Naima Simone

I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this book, I liked the blurb, the idea behind two people running into each other after a long time apart, separated by more then just time, but also by betrayal. Just works for me. What can I say I am a sucker for the drama, I like when two people have a lot of pain and suffering to work through. Honestly, the reason why this book gets three stars for me is because it’s almost exclusively physical. Yes there are some emotional moments, but most of the emotional turmoil is internal and all happens while naked and heating up the pages. Don’t get me wrong I like some hotness in my books, but I also like there to me more than just physical. Our leading man is Killian (seriously love this name lately) and he’s definitely carrying some serious baggage. He was sent to jail for two years, after the woman he loved basically turned him in and he never heard from her again. He has some serious PTSD like symptoms when it comes to dealing with his experiences in jail, mostly in confined spaces. He’s definitely more guarded, and opposed to letting people in. So when Gabby shows up in his nightclub, its not at all something he was prepared for. I totally understood why he was apprehensive about seeing her, being with her, loving her, etc. It makes total sense. But there is still a lot of heat going on […]

Could’ve Said Yes by Tracy March

I can honestly say I don’t think I have read a book where someone works for the EPA, sure there have been the occasional book where one of the characters is really big on the environment, but never someone who worked for the EPA. So because of that reason I was pretty interested in reading this book. I actually really loved the environmental aspect of the book, it really worked for me. Ellie is back in town after a disastrous break up with her ex, she’s finally doing what she really wants to do now that she is on her own. She opened her own art gallery and does some side photography work for the newspaper, all in all her life is going pretty good. She also has some really good relationships with her brothers, who I really liked. So when the new guy shows up in town, it definitely opens her to the possibility of a relationship, something I don’t think she was expecting. I really liked the way the author was able to describe Ellie’s photography and art, sometimes its hard to visualize in my head what exactly an author is talking about when it comes to art, but this was really easy for me to see, and I loved it. I also really loved the dynamics between Ellie and the town, it’s a small town so everyone knows everyone, and they all really seemed like good people. Now as for our hero, Collin I really liked him. Being Brooke by Emma Hart

Being Brooke by Emma Hart

Ah friends to lovers! One of my favorites to read. So obviously Emma Hart is one of my favorite authors, and after the ending of her Holly Woods Files series, I needed something to fill the gap, and this was the perfect book. I love Emma’s wit in her books, she always has one of two characters who are just super sassy and make me laugh out loud, they always make the book such a fun time, and this was definitely the case here. Brooke is awesome, there is no way around that. She’s at a point in her life that I can totally relate to, she’s dropped out of college, working at a pretty much dead end job that she’s thrilled with, but without a real direction on where to go from there. The good thing is that she has some seriously awesome friends, Carly and Cain. The problem of course is that Brooke is in love with Cain, pretty much everyone else is aware of this fact, and Cain is dating a woman who seriously dislikes both Brooke and Carly. In a lot of ways Cain is kind of being pulled in two different directions, he wants to be a good boyfriend, but at the same time he has been friends with Carly and Brooke for a really long time, and they are basically like family to him. Of course I was rooting for Cain and Brooke to get together from like page one of the book, especially because […]
