It’s been five years since I’ve seen her.

Five years since Gabriella James damn near destroyed me with her betrayal, sending me to hell in a cage.

I’ve crawled free, escaped the mob, opened a night club, and continue to battle my demons through underground fighting and sex. But now Gabriella’s back, begging for absolution, wanting my forgiveness. All I want is what she’s denied me for all these years — her body.

Sex. That’s all we’ll ever have.

Because Gabriella is still keeping secrets. I see it in her eyes.

I don’t trust her, and I’ll never forgive her betrayal.

But that won’t stop me from taking her.

Over...and over...and over...

I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this book, I liked the blurb, the idea behind two people running into each other after a long time apart, separated by more then just time, but also by betrayal. Just works for me. What can I say I am a sucker for the drama, I like when two people have a lot of pain and suffering to work through.

Honestly, the reason why this book gets three stars for me is because it’s almost exclusively physical. Yes there are some emotional moments, but most of the emotional turmoil is internal and all happens while naked and heating up the pages. Don’t get me wrong I like some hotness in my books, but I also like there to me more than just physical.

Our leading man is Killian (seriously love this name lately) and he’s definitely carrying some serious baggage. He was sent to jail for two years, after the woman he loved basically turned him in and he never heard from her again. He has some serious PTSD like symptoms when it comes to dealing with his experiences in jail, mostly in confined spaces. He’s definitely more guarded, and opposed to letting people in. So when Gabby shows up in his nightclub, its not at all something he was prepared for. I totally understood why he was apprehensive about seeing her, being with her, loving her, etc. It makes total sense. But there is still a lot of heat going on between the two of them, and you can’t help but notice how much they gravitate towards each other.

Gabby was pretty likable. I totally understand why she did what she did, she was trying to do the best that she could to make sure that the man she loved stayed alive. Totally get that. I also get why she left. And there were a lot of moments where I really felt for her, I mean she clearly still loves this man, and is totally opening herself up to completely heartbreak all over again just so she can spend time with this man for as long as he will allow it.

This book was really short for me, and I think that’s because it takes place over a pretty short period of time and it was mostly, like I said, hot bedroom scenes, but I like longer more character driven books. I felt like there was a lot of emotional angst that could have been tapped into with these two people that would have made me really love it. But if you are in the mood for a hot, quick, and dirty romance then this might just be the ticket.

About Naima Simone

I was born the daughter of a sharecropper…okay, maybe not. But, I am the daughter of a pastor from whom I inherited my love of romance. The man can preach a mean Song of Solomon! (There’s that plug, Daddy! You can pay me later!)

Although my first book starred a cucumber named Fred, my first romance came several years later in the seventh grade when I wrote myself as a heroine opposite Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. Through the power of my pen and imagination, Ralph took one look across a crowded stadium, met my dark, mysterious gaze, fell passionately in love and serenaded me in front of millions of fans. Out of all the girls in the world, he chose me! And, of course we lived happily ever after—once we had the inevitable fight, aka black moment, and made up with a passionate declaration of love and fidelity. This same story reincarnated itself many times over the years: with Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, and as recently as last night, Vin Diesel.

Though the characters have changed, my love of love has endured. Shaping the lives of the unique men and women who experience the first, hungry bites of lust, the dizzying heights of passion and the tender, healing heat of love— nothing compares to it. Except maybe discovering new material for love scenes with my husband, the head of Research & Development!
