Clay Maxwell is a smart, quick witted, sex-driven, manwhore with the good looks to match. Plenty of women have shared his bed, but only one has ever been constant, Andrea.
Their rules were simple. When they’re together, it’s just the two of them. When they’re apart, anything is fair game. And it worked. For ten years.
But one of them has changed the game…
Clay must decide if his player ways are worth losing the one girl who has always been there.
So I really like K.A. Linde, and moreover I love, love, loved the series with Liz and Brady, I mean it was such a fun ready for me, and I loved following those two around. During the For the Record series we are introduced to Brady’s whole family, including Clay and Andrea, who are the main characters in this book, and I have to admit that I always found Clay to be super interesting so I was really excited to get my hands on this book. Thankfully Clay did not disappoint.
One of the best things about this book is that the whole thing is basically told from Clay’s POV, I haven’t read a ton of romances where everything is from the man’s perspective, but honestly I really enjoy it. Also I think Clay is really just a complex guy, so it was great to follow along with him. Clay has felt like he has lived in his brother’s shadow for pretty much his entire life, and really his life goals are just things he thinks his family wants for him, he really is seeking validation from them. But he is also a super cocky guy, who has basically had an open relationship with the same girl for 10 years. They even own a house together! But as they have aged, Andrea, has started to want more from Clay then just the hook up and companionship. And when something unexpected happens she really things there is going to be change in their relationship, only that’s not really what happened. Clay wants things to stay the same, after all it has worked well for them for the past ten years, they each get to sleep with whoever they want, but ultimately always come back to each other. Andrea, seeing that this is never going to go the way she wants it to, leaves.
And now for the run part. Watching Clay flounder around. The great thing about Clay in the other books is that he really is just so sure of himself, he’s cocky, but in the best way. And suddenly in this book he is in a situation that he really has no idea how to handle. He knows he wants Andrea in his life, but does he really know what his true feelings are, and how does he handle the rejection. It would be so easy for him to just go on to sleeping around and partying it up like he always does, but instead he’s rather lost. This ends up being great for Clay to really figure out what he wants, not just in romance, but in work and life in general. Going on this ride with Clay is really so enjoyable, and his personality makes it even better.
If you read the first three books in the Record series, you will without a doubt enjoy reading this book as well. Clay is just so much fun to read. This is an easy recommendation for me because Clay is the perfect amount of cocky and interesting, and he really knows how to steam up the pages in just the right way.
