He's never met a challenge he couldn't take...
Alexis Yeung did everything right....only to watch everything go horribly, horribly wrong. Broken and angry, Alexis high-tails it to Europe, determined to face the world on her own terms and without consequence. Which includes a mind-blowing night with a sexy, scarred stranger.
Except, embittered former pararescuer Luke Jackson isn't exactly a stranger. He's supposed to keep an eye on Alexis without her knowing. Ending up in bed together was definitely not the plan. Now he's chasing her (admittedly hot) ass across Europe, a game of cat and mouse that always ends with the two of them tangled up in the sheets.
Something in their scarred, damaged souls calls to each other. And God help them, the sex in unbelievably hot. But if Alexis discovers who Lukereally is, he'll lose the one thing that makes him feel whole...
I liked the idea behind this book, or maybe it was that I liked the setting behind this book. There is always something super romantic to me about meeting someone in a foreign country and falling for them, or at the very least having a couple of nights of passion.
So Alexis basically abandoned her home life and jumped on a plane to Europe. I felt for her in this book, she was dealing with a lot of things before her trip, her mother had passed, her grandparents were like the opposite of supportive people, she got really sick (to which the people she cared about in her life reacted horribly too), and then as if it wasn’t enough for her to deal with, her fiance left her. If anyone needed a trip to get her blood pumping again it was Alexis. Like I said, I felt for Alexis and her situation, and in general I liked her. I did think she needed a jumpstart, she was so in her head about things, and then on some other things, she didn’t fully think them through. But at the end of the day, she really needed Luke.
So Luke is a grumpy dude. I mean really. He used to be in the military and was seriously injured, like basically had to have his leg reconstructed. Needless to say he wouldn’t have been my first choice when asking my buddy to keep an eye on Alexis while she hikes around Europe. There are a lot of instances in this book where you can tell without a doubt that Luke is a in a lot of pain. So while Luke is definitely a grumpy guy, it’s kind of understandable, you can tell that being in the military is all he ever wanted to do and this injury just ripped that away from him. Luke is suppose to be secretly keeping an eye on Alexis, but of course, she figures him out right off the bat (I love their first interaction together, she totally gets the drop on him). Keeping the secret that he was sent to watch over Alexis does make things a little more intense, but of course as the reader, you know that it’s all gonna blow up.
Overall, I did enjoy the book, and I did think that Luke and Alexis have some great chemistry together. I think the book was pretty faced paced though, and a quick read for me, and because the book was on the shorter side, I thought the amount of time they spent between the sheets kind of detracted a bit from their connection beyond that. But, like I said, I did enjoy the read, and if you are looking for a book on the short end of things, with some seriously hot and heavy in it, this might be the book for you.
