One girl. Two wolves. Promised to one. Destined for the other.

To escape the cruel, overbearing, Kade, the Yukon Pack alpha she’s been promised to, Bailey Whitehill flees her home in search of a new life, one of freedom where she can make her own choices. However, Kade will stop at nothing to make her his and begins the hunt.

As Bailey starts her new life, everything she’s known to be true, is not. Time is of the essence and choices have to be made or consequences suffered. Not only does Bailey fear Kade, but another danger lurks deep in the recesses of the forest. Unbeknownst to her, that danger is what she’s been searching for all along. At the turn of the moon, her fate hangs in the balance . . . and it’s up to her to make the right choice.

I’ve been in the mood for more urban fantasy books lately, which isn’t all that surprising since I used to read them every single day before I started becoming obsessed with the romance genre. I have read L.P. Dover’s work before, and since I love shifters I thought this would be a perfect book to help me out with my urban fantasy craving. I tend to like the male characters in Dover’s books, so I was excited to read the kind of alpha male that she dreamed up for a shifter book.

So our book starts out with Bailey, our lovely heroine, and a rare female alpha. Her parents have promised her to Kade, the Yukon pack alpha who is, well, there is no nice way to say this, but a horrible and seriously unhinged dude. There is never a second in the entire book where I ever believed that Kade has any redeeming qualities at all. So Bailey, I liked her. She’s stands up for herself, she protects others even when it puts her own safety on the line, and I really liked that she questions magic or things she doesn’t quite understand, she never just goes along with what other people tell her. What can I say I like a woman who thinks for herself and doesn’t just buy into any old thing.

No our hero in the book is Ryker, who is very much an alpha, but also kind and giving, basically the complete opposite of Kade. I like that he is honorable and that others are more than willing to stand with him. I like that he is patient with Bailey and never pushes her into doing anything she doesn’t want to do.

So I don’t want to give to much of the story away, so I’m going to try and tell you what I liked and didn’t without going into to much detail. The book has a lot of suspenseful moments in it, which I enjoyed (especially at the end). I also really liked the idea because a royal bloodline and how others want to take advantage of that bloodline. I didn’t like how quickly things progressed in the beginning of the book, I felt like it didn’t give me enough time to really latch on to the characters, but once the story really got moving I got pulled in. I will say that this book does have a lot of hot and heavy scenes, so if you don’t want that in your book then this may not be the book for you. It also has some hard to read scenes between Kade and Bailey, largely because as I mentioned earlier he’s sadistically evil, and does some pretty repulsive stuff, makes him a pretty easy villain. All in all I enjoyed reading this book, so if you like L.P. Dover, or books about wolf shifters, you may want to check out this book.
