One date with the sexier-than-sin Detective Drake Nash. Simple.

Until you take into account that my brother finally proposed to his girlfriend, so Nonna is on a warpath—and the crazy old bat has Cupid by the balls.

The upcoming mayoral elections has everyone running on full speed, and while I couldn’t give any less craps about the corrupt Holly Woods mayor’s office, a dead body in the middle of a campaign speech has me thrown right into the middle of it. The victim is close to the mayor, but all he cares about is minimizing the damage to his campaign, so he hires me to work alongside Drake to close the case as quickly as possible.

Bad news for our tentative relationship.

We disagree far more than we agree, but being at loggerheads won’t get this murder solved… Or deal with the arrival of someone from his past.
The mysteries behind the murder aren’t the only things unraveling, and despite being knee-deep in lies and corruption and bonds so tangled they’re almost indecipherable, I have to figure out if I’m willing to fight for Drake the way I do justice…
Or if he’ll be my one who gets away.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I love Emma Hart. I love her writing and the chemistry she is able to create with her characters. I have to say, without a doubt though, that this series has got to be my favorite of this year, and definitely my favorite of Emma Hart’s work. It’s just the perfect mix between humor, heat, and mystery.

So we meet Noelle again shortly after the events of book one, so basically she is avoiding Drake and the date she promised him and trying to find a replacement employee for “computers” that she lost in the last book. What I love about Noelle is that she is seriously hilarious, even in her day to day things, I mean she has this great point of view, and she says the funniest things and thinks the funniest things. She still has Nonna on her 24/7 about finding a man and getting married, and let’s face it Nonna is hilarious too. One of the great things about this book is there are some really good family moments in this book, and while I liked the family in the first book, by the second you really know them and love them.

Drake is still so very Drake in this book, and oh how that is such a good thing. I love and adore Drake. He has to be kind of pushy in order to get Noelle to open up to the idea of the two of them, I mean she is literally hiding in the bathroom to avoid going out on the date she promised with the hot guy she clearly likes. These two have chemistry is droves, and I love them together. What I loved about this book and their relationship in the book is that when they are working together, Drake isn’t fighting it like he was in the first book. And when you put the two of them together working on the same case, I have to say they are a force to be reckoned with.

I love the mystery element in this book, trying to figure out who the killer is. I have to say in both books my initial instinct about who did was totally wrong, and I love that about the book. I mean I don’t know about you, but I love being surprised in mystery, and I especially love a mystery that makes me laugh out loud and fan myself from how hot the pages are burning up. Highly recommend this book, this series, and this author.

About Emma Hart

Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels and has been translated into several different languages. She first put fingers to keys at the age of eighteen after her husband told her she read too much and should write her own.
Four years later, she’s still figuring out what he meant when he said she ‘read too much.’

She prides herself on writing smart smut that’s filled with dry wit, snappy, sarcastic comebacks, but lots of heart… And sex. Sometimes, she kills people. (Disclaimer: In books. But if you bug her, she’ll use your name for the victims.)
