Parker Black wants the one woman he shouldn’t have—his buddy’s girl. She sweet and smart, but clueless about how deep Parker lives in Titan’s virtual world. Everything is controlled. Chaos is mastered. Black and white data and risk analyst. That is the way he understands his world, how he plays his role to keep Titan teams alive.
But he’s wrong.
Lexi Dare lives two lives. She’s an unhappy fiancé stuck in a spiraling relationship, unsure how she ended up with a ring on her finger and an abuser in her bed. But she’s also elusive. Elite. A master hacker playing deadly stakes.
When the lines blur and the truth comes out, Lexi’s only shot at survival is the trust of her rival—her equal—before it’s too late.
I love books with hackers, I am sorry it’s just my thing, give me a computer nerd everyday of the week and I’m happy, especially if they are built and can carry a gun (just saying). I love a good romance under fire, I mean who doesn’t love some added suspense in their romance?
So we start off with Lexi meeting a guy at a bar, and talk about a bad decision, I mean seriously. This guy, Matt, well he turns out to be bad news. Two years later, she engaged to the guy who is beyond abusive and threatens to hurt her dog. Honestly that part killed me. I know what it is like to love an animal so much, to feel like they are the only friend you have and then to have that animal threatened. I mean seriously there is a special place in hell for people who threaten and hurt animals just because they can. From the beginning I just wanted Lexi to get the heck out of dodge. And it’s so hard to read sometimes because she is such a smart girl, clearly has the resources to leave, she has just been broken down slowly over time and her desire to belong and be loved is being completely used against her. Seriously my heart just broke for her.
And then we have Parker. Oh sweet Parker. Who doesn’t love a hacker who works for the good guys, is built like a rock, and can protect those he cares about. I mean seriously? I loved him from the beginning. I love how he is so willing to do whatever it takes to make sure Lexi is okay. I love how sweet he is to her. I love how he tells her exactly how it is, he doesn’t tiptoe around things, he just lays it all out and then goes from there, but never in a bad way.
The chemistry between Lexi and Parker is super hot, and they certainly steam up the pages in more than one spot. I absolutely adored reading these two. There is without a doubt some action in this book, all really well written and easy to follow. I liked the cast of characters, which are all from previous books in the series, and even though I hadn’t read the other books, I never felt confused or left out (something I really appreciated). I loved the computer elements to it all, I’m a bit of computer geek myself who codes on the weekends, and I’m married to a guy who thinks ethical hacking is the bees knees, so needless to say I appreciated all the geek speak, but it wasn’t too overwhelming for those of you out there who don’t have a working knowledge of all things nerd. All in all this was an awesome read for me. It was face paced, I loved the characters, and the plot just worked for me. Easily recommended.
