Ava McKenzie is a creature of habit. Life is passing her by and she has nothing to show for it. She’s had the same job since she started college, she orders the same dish every time she goes to her favorite restaurant, and only reads books from authors she knows. There is nothing new or surprising in her life… until her best friend marries a man from London. When her newlywed friend asks her to house-sit while she honeymoons, Ava jumps at the chance. She thinks this could be the very thing she needs to shake up her life. Ava throws herself head first into her new lifestyle; she wants to try everything, go everywhere, and never get stuck in a rut again. Of course, offing a man in a car garage hadn’t been one of the things on her list to try.
Owen Walker spends every day in a new place with a new case. As one of the most renowned assassins in the world, he has his choice of marks—and he’s never failed in a mission. When a new hit takes him back to his hometown, he looks forward to spending time somewhere familiar. What he isn’t expecting is to help an attractive, confused American woman find out how she’s ended up on a hit man’s list.
As Ava and Owen dodge bullets, will they be able to escape their undeniable attraction to each other? Or will all of that chemistry blow up in a shower of hot and dangerous sparks?
I loved this book! Like seriously feel in love with it from the very beginning. This book had so many fun moments, so many steamy moments, and just keep me enthralled and along for the crazy ride. The whole thing starts off kind of crazy. Ava is just an ordinary girl, she’s staying at her best friends place and when she goes for a job interview, she runs over a guy. Seriously. Only the guy is/was trying to kill her, as it would seem she is on a hit list. Talk about an interesting beginning to a story.
Owen is a hitman, who would have thought that a hitman would be such an enjoyable hero. But really, I kind of loved him. He sees everything happen with Ava and her “car accident” and grabs her to find out what the heck is going on. This leads to the two of them on the run, trying to figure out who is looking for them and what the heck is going on.
I really enjoyed both characters. Ava was totally unexpected to me, she reacted exactly the way I thought she would given the situation at first, but then she was able to really pick herself up out of the crazy and take control. I was super impressed with her ability to go with the flow, she had a lot more personal fortitude than I was expecting and I loved it. Owen as a hitman was not what I was expecting. I think I thought he was going to be some hard a$$ who didn’t have any feelings or wasn’t relatable, but I was so wrong. He was so easily likable. I loved his POV and his determination. But what I loved about both of these characters it that alone they are cool, but together they are awesome. These two work so much better together than alone and the chemistry between them is really great. I loved reading every scene with them, not just the hot and steamy ones.
All in all I loved reading this book. There was suspense and humor, some fantastic romance elements. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. This is not my first Nichole Chase book, and frankly it without a doubt will not be the last book of hers I read. I love her writing style, it just pulls you in. I without a doubt recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good, exciting read.
