Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control. About to wed the charming Chief doctor at the local hospital, she’s an up-and-coming surgeon with everything she could ever want. Until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin…and flings her right into her best friend’s arms.
When Wolfe catches his best friend falling out a window on her wedding day, he doesn’t ask questions. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk his most important relationship in order to protect his damaged heart, and the woman he loves.
Can Genevieve and Wolfe’s friendship turn into something deeper—or is it already too late for true love?
So this book is third in the series, and if this book is anything to go by, I really should read the rest of the series. That being said you can totally read this one on its own, although you can tell from the other characters in this book that they have some interesting stories that you will want to know more about.
So the book starts and Gen is at the church waiting to get married to David, but she is without a doubt having second thoughts, you can feel her panic right from the beginning. So when she crawls out of the window and rather ungracefully falls to the ground, I have to say I was on board with her decision, especially when Wolfe scooped her up and took her away from the mess awaiting her inside. I loved Gen, and I felt for her right from the beginning. She’s such a strong woman, she’s intelligent, she has a good heart, and she’s a good friend and daughter. So when I realized why the relationship with David was never going to work I felt so bad for her. So many people minimize emotional abuse, but abuse is abuse, and it was so sad to see how much a toxic relationship can hurt a person.
And Wolfe, oh Wolfe, sign me up for a piece of that. He is such an awesome guy, like seriously. I loved that he is rough around the edges, but yet a fierce and protective friend to Gen. He has such a damaged and sad past, and the book gives you this short little glimpses into his childhood and they were so remarkably heartbreaking. What works about Wolfe is how the relationship with Gen plays out, their friendship really makes his character. Their friendship is so easy to read, and to wish that you had a friendship like that with someone else. I mean seriously I am jealous of the friendship they have.
But when these two friends start to step into the realm of something more, man things get good. The heat between the two of them is amazing. And there is some drama involved with Gen’s ex David that has you wanting to beat the crap out of David but at the same time want to cheer for Wolfe. The secondary cast of characters is just so great, I loved Gen’s friends and how supportive they are to her. I totally want to know more about Izzy (Gen’s sister) I feel like there is a great story there. And the people who have welcomed Wolfe into their lives and made him their family, well they were just so great, the world need more people like them.
I love friends to lovers romances, and this one was such a great one, I completely loved it. I would recommend this book to anyone, hands down. So check out this book as soon as you can!
