When adrenaline runs high, so does the force of desire…

For Shay Appleton, it’s love at first sight when a gorgeous stray dog is brought into the animal shelter where she works. She just knows he’ll make a terrific watch dog—and with an abusive ex who won’t let go, she needs all the protection she can get. But Shay never suspected that her new pet is actually a trained police K-9 named Bogart—until Bogart’s even more gorgeous, human partner shows up on her doorstep.

Officer James Cannon is one tall, strong alpha male who’s convinced that Shay stole his dog. But once he gets closer to the suspect, he realizes that this stubborn, independent woman not only needs a guard dog, she needs James as well. It seems that someone from her past is stalking her, and threatening her life. When danger meets desire, will James risk his career and his best friend…to protect the woman who’s stolen his heart?

I think anyone who knows me even a little bit knows how much I love books with animals in it, especially romance books with dogs, so when I saw a hot guy on the cover with a dog, I knew I was going to read this book. Thankfully the synopsis was appealing and even better the book turned out to be quite enjoyable too.

So our heroine is Shay, and she adopted her new dog from an animal shelter where she works, some strange woman brought her in and suggested the dog was violent, but Shay immediately bonded to him so she brought him home with her. Shay really needed a guard dog for sure, she has a crazy ex who seriously won’t take no for an answer, and honestly the law in the area around her cabin where she is living does not take her seriously at all. I love how great her and Bogart (the dog) got along, it was almost like Bogart knew that Shay needed him.

James is the officer who is assigned to Bogart, he’s his handler, and honestly Bogart is pretty much James’ best friend, he loves that dog. So when his beloved dog and partner is kidnapped and disappears, he is on the hunt to find his dog and who is responsible for taking him. Needless to say when James finds Bogart with Shay, he isn’t exactly the kindest guy in the world towards her, but he can kind of tell right off the bat something isn’t right and the way that Shay and Bogart seem to have bonded makes him think that maybe there is something going on with Shay.

This book had a lot of smaller elements that worked well in concert that made it enjoyable. I liked the built in suspense of it all. There were some heightened emotions at the beginning when James finds his dog, and then there is the ever evolving relationship dynamic between Shay and James as they keep finding themselves being pulled together. There is a good suspenseful mystery involved in this book which really worked for me. It kept the pace of the book really strong and basically had me finishing this book in one sitting. I loved how both Shay and James had exes in this book that played a big role in the story. I would like to mention that there were moment that I did wish I knew more about Shay, I think it would have helped me like her more, but even with that I did like her a lot as a character.

If you like law enforcement books, crazy exes, or romances with dogs in them, then this is for sure a book that you should check out. Easily recommended.
