My name is Hemy Knox and I’m a fucking heartbreaker . . . I’ve hurt the one person that means the most to me in life; the only woman I have ever fucking loved. I let the drugs, alcohol and wild life take over; consume me. I got her where I wanted her and ripped her fucking heart out. Since then, I’ve spent countless nights having dirty, meaningless sex with a multitude of people; only leaving them wanting and begging for more with no regrets. Some may even call me the devil; soulless. They look and judge, but there is one thing they don’t know; no one does. I want more than this life of stripping and sleeping around; the never ending party. I want love and everything that comes with it; that high that never ends. The problem is . . . I only want it with her. Onyx. She refuses to be mine . . . again. She’s smart and it’s a mother fucking pain in my ass; guarding her heart while ripping mine right out of my chiseled chest. I can’t say that I blame her. I always was a dumb ass when it came to the emotions of a woman, especially her. She wants to see me suffer as much as I made her; watch me wither and fucking die at her feet. She wants to crush me until I’m no longer breathing and I will let her, because it hurts far less than not having her as mine. I will stop at nothing to make her mine again. The pain only drives me harder; feeding my fury and giving me a reason to live . . . her.

I had a hard time picking a rating for this book, because honestly there were parts I really didn’t enjoy all that much and then there were parts I really did enjoy, so I went straight down the middle with a three star. So I guess I would characterize this book as mostly a second chance romance, since our two main characters used to have a relationship four years prior.

So Hemy definitely hasn’t had the easiest life, and he has some issues that he has had to work through including some addiction issues. He used to be with Onyx, but they broke up and she left town after Hemy messed up one too many times (understandable). So now Hemy is a male stripper and it seems like he is just going through the motions of living, he isn’t really excited about life. He is definitely sexually promiscuous though (there is more than one threesome in this book so if that’s not your thing you have been warned). So when he goes to gig one night, and sees Onyx there at the house he is performing in, everything changes.

Onyx is back in town and seeing Hemy is not something she is really ready for. It’s clear she still has feelings for him, she just doesn’t seem to trust him at all (with anything). And more than that she is hiding a huge secret for Hemy, one that personally I think makes her a really bad person given that she knows all about Hemy’s past and how much it haunts him. Honestly, the whole secret thing made it completely impossible for me to like her, and since I didn’t like her like at all, I wasn’t attached to her as a character, so I didn’t really care whether or not the romance happened or not.

My biggest issues with the book is that the dialogue read really stiff, like I couldn’t imagine these people talking to each other that way. Also there was a lot of explaining dialogue or narration, but even with all of that I still felt like there were things I was missing from the story. I felt like there were things missing from both Onyx and Hemy’s past that should have been explained at some point during the book.

I will say I liked Hemy for the most part, and there was more than one moment when I really felt for him and wanted everything to work out for him. I think deep down Hemy is a good guy, so I liked him. There is a lot of hot and steamy in this book (although not all of it is realistic) so if that’s your thing this book for sure has it. All in all, if you like second chance romances and the idea of male strippers excites you, then this might just be the book you are looking for.
