Raven, a college girl from Michigan, came to the jungles of Cameroon searching for closure. Falling for Jospin, a handsome, charismatic hunter with dark secrets of his own, was never part of the plan. But despite their differences, their attraction is addictive, as exhilarating and wild as the rain forest itself—and also as dangerous.
For the sake of both their lives, their heated affair must remain a secret. Raven wants justice for her conservationist father’s death; to help her, Jospin must turn his back on his own father and the only life he has ever known. Together they risk being hunted by a band of ruthless poachers, but they take the chance anyway, working to bring down their enemies between each stolen kiss.
But when one slip puts Raven’s life at stake, Jospin knows he must act. He has captured Raven’s heart—now can he set her free?
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and it ended in such a cliff hanger, let me tell ya, I was really happy I didn’t have to wait for very long to find out what happened next. I am going to do my best to write this review without giving away too many things, but without a doubt you should for sure read the first book in this series, Until You Find Me.
So part of the reason why this book and this series is so appealing to me is because I can honestly say I haven’t read any romances quite like this one. I really love when a book is able to transport me into a foreign country and make me feel like I can picture the setting and culture in my head. I was super impressed with how well Amber Hart described the jungle in this book. I really felt like I could picture it, and honestly the jungle/rainforest itself is a great character in the book.
So Raven is the daughter of a gorilla rescuer. Her father set up a sanctuary to help injured gorillas whose numbers are dwindling due to poaching. After her father’s death, Raven goes to the sanctuary to find out what her father was trying to tell her before he died. She finds out all kinds of things about her father and why he died, all of which brings Raven to the poachers themselves. In the first book Raven falls in love with Jospin, who is the son of the ruler of one of the poaching tribes, heir to the throne, only she doesn’t know the truth of who he is. So needless to say there is a lot going on in this story. There are real matters of life and death in this book that Raven and Jospin have to contend with before they even have a chance to be together.
There is so much I want to tell you guys about this book, but I don’t want to ruin anything. I loved how Jospin is so willing to give up so much for Raven, but more than that I loved reading Jospin’s POV. So much of this book Jospin is separated from everyone including Raven, so as a reader you are taken along for the ride with his evolution as he learns so much more than I think he was ever prepared to. Part of what I liked about Jospin is that his evolution is slow, it doesn’t happen overnight, which I think if it had it wouldn’t have felt real.
As for Raven, well I liked her in this book as much as in the first. She’s such a strong girl, and her time in the jungle hasn’t been an easy for one for her. But she has a purpose in this book and she is unwilling to run away for it, she has a plan and she is either going to complete it or die trying. I also really liked getting to know some of the secondary characters who in the first book only interacted with Jospin and now are primarily interacting with Raven.
I highly recommend this book, it’s very much so not like anything I have ever read before. I love the love story, the suspense, and the characters are just really great.
