"I'm not sure what you have been told about me, but I'm not nearly as bad as they make me out to be." His deliciously deep voice carried a little bit of ego.
I'm sure you are exactly as bad as they make you out to be….
Brad De Luca is used to getting whatever and whomever he wants. The premier divorce attorney in town, he's a playboy who's bedded half the city—including his own clients. And when the newest intern at his firm poses a challenge, his seductive prowess goes into overdrive.
Pre-law student Julia Campbell is fresh off a failed engagement and happy with her new independence. Even if she weren't warned away from Brad at every turn, she'd know he was bad news. The last thing she needs is a man who could destroy her job prospects, not to mention her innocence. But before she knows it, the incorrigible charmer has her under his spell. His deviant tastes plunge her deep into a forbidden world of sexual exploration…but her heart may not survive the fall.
I really enjoyed Torre’s writing style in this book, she made it so easy for me to get wrapped up in the story and not to put it down. If we are being completely honest I think I read this entire series in like a day and a half, and that is seriously a testament to the quality of the writing, especially since I was on vacation when I did all the reading.
So I loved how the book opened with Julia getting an internship at a really prestigious law firm, and being assigned one of the partners to work with. It was funny to me how different all the partners are from each other. The partner that Julia is assigned to is a work horse, he seems to never leave the office and works his side of the office like crazy. But every time Julia is near Brad’s side of the office, it seems like there is a fun loving atmosphere, so some of her fellow interns are getting a completely different experience then her. Oh and did I forget to mention that Julia’s partner seems to seriously hate Brad, I mean like serious hate him, to the point where at every turn he seems to be warning her away from him, it’s kind of bizarre.
The first time Julia and Brad have an encounter, I actually remember laughing out loud, the encounter doesn’t exactly go over all that well. But I think the incident is what peaked Brad’s interest and started the whole ball rolling in the romance department. Add in a spur of the moment trip and things definitely get interesting.
So I really liked Brad, he is kind of one big puzzle that both Julia and the reader are trying to figure out as the book goes on. He’s handsome and has a great personality to go with those good looks, I love a charming man. I do like that he is very much an alpha guy personality, but at the same time he shows that side of him with a smile, so he doesn’t come off as a jerk like a lot of alpha guy types do.
As for Julia, well in this book she is really just trying to figure out her way. She’s in a new situation, trying to make the best impression she can at her internship and then all of a sudden she is in this new situation with Brad and trying to figure out what it all means. She is like of naive and insecure at the beginning of the story, but one of things I liked about her was that she might have been somewhat naive, but she was also quite smart and had no problem speaking her mind.
I really liked this introduction to the series, and I was super excited to read the rest of the books after this one (what can I say, I wanted to know Brad’s secrets). I would easily recommend this book and this series to just about anyone. Especially if you are in the market for a hot and steamy workplace romance.
