Sadie Miller isn't expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from part-time rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straight-laced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her like she's the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago. But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a B and B. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw…
Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she's so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?
I really enjoy Maisey Yates as an author, her voice just kind of speaks to me, it’s so easy for me to get lost in her writing. I don’t think I have read one of her books where afterwords I thought to myself, hmm the characters were just okay; I always end up loving her characters. So when I saw this book, and I saw the word cowboy, I knew I had to get my paws on it. I love cowboy books, especially right now when its spring time, always makes me think of home and horseback riding.
So I liked Sadie a lot. She is kind of nomadic, every couple of years she just kind of picks up her life and moves. It makes for very interesting life and meeting new people, but she doesn’t ever get the chance to put down roots. She kind of does this a self preservation type thing, can’t get too attached if you never stay anywhere to long. But as she got older I think she started to realize she was missing out by not having a place to call home. So she went back to Copper Ridge, signs a 5 year lease and decides to open up a B&B. It’s definitely ambitious, and it’s also something that is out of character for her. I really respect that about her, that she is willing to take such a risk and work so hard to make something she wants happen.
Eli is an interesting guy, you know there is more going on beneath the surface with him, but he is kind of one of those grunt and nod kind of guys. Or at least that’s how he seems to me. But that being said it’s not to say he isn’t an interesting character. Eli’s family has been through some hard times in their lives, which has made Eli really appreciate order. So he definitely comes of as bossy on more than one occasion. He’s also the local law enforcement, and the last person to arrest Sadie before she left town way back when. Needless to say Eli is not exactly what one would consider thrilled about the idea of Sadie living on his land now that she has this new five year lease.
I kind of loved the interactions between Eli and Sadie. The have chemistry that is for sure. They have great hot and steamy moments, great emotional moments, and they have a lot of funny moments between them as well. I liked watching them work out who they were to each other and more than that I liked seeing Eli and Sadie really figure out who they are as people and what they want with their lives. There is some interesting events that happen at the end which I also really enjoyed and thought it set up the ending quite nicely.
If you like Maisey Yates, or you like a good cowboy romance, then this is a book you should check out. I love small town romances with cowboys and this one was just such a fun read for me, I would highly recommend it.
