I’m not going to say it was love at first sight when I met her. I don’t believe in that. Because love isn’t about falling for someone’s looks. Though she was beautiful in every single way, from her dark, wavy hair to her gorgeous brown eyes, to the soft curves of her body. But that’s not why I fell so hard for her that summer. She took my breath away for reasons that had nothing to do with her looks. It was the the movies, the conversations, the walks through the small town, the nights on the beach with the waves rolling in, the way I could hold her hand and feel as if the world had simply melted away and we were all that was left. So, there was no love-at-first-sight. That would come later, and if it happened first it would take away all the reasons that stayed with me for the next five years. Even though you’re not supposed to fall for your best friend’s little sister. But that didn't stop me...
So first things first, this is a prequel novella for the series, so this review isn’t going to be super long, given that the novella is well short. That being said I really did enjoy this book. I actually really like when an author takes the time to really explore characters pasts, especially when later on in the series we are going to experience these same characters at a later date. I loved being able to get a glimpse into what happened with these two people, and the kind of people they were when it all began.
Another reason why I liked this novella is because it has the whole best friends little sister trope thing going for it. I love that whole scenario, just do, always have, always will. So when Bryan goes to stay at his best friend Nate’s house for the summer, he knew he would be meeting his little sister, but I don’t think he ever expected to want her. But hey as it turns out, he really likes Kat.
Kat and Bryan get along great, they have a lot in common, and they spend two weeks together getting to know each other and having a great time. It’s a great to watch them really start to fall for each other. Of course, the summer comes to a close and they part ways (hey it’s necessary for book one).
I know there is another prequel in a different POV available, but I picked this one, mostly because I love getting the guys POV. This is great opening, and after reading this I was more then ready to open Caught Up in Us to see what happened next. If you’re like me and like best friends little sister books, you should check out this novella and the series.
