They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence.
But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.
My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.
I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.
But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it’s the heart.
This book is just so… there really is no way to explain it, unless you have read it yourself. The best way to explain it is that if you are looking for some sappy romance where everything is sweet and kind and you end the book feeling all good and happy, this is probably not the book for you. If you are looking for a book with tons of drama, a crazy fast pace, and you never knowing what is coming around the corner then you should try this one out. Oh and be prepared to curse Blair’s name when you realize the sequel isn’t out yet (no worries it’s right around the corner).
So first off you know without a doubt that there is way more going on below the surface from almost the second the book starts. There is a lot going on in this book, and it’s actually going to be really hard to write this review without giving away too much about the book. But I’m gonna try to do my best, so bare with me.
Nina has lived a hard life, like without a doubt. Something happened when she was young that resulted in her being put in foster care, and she ended up in a really bad foster home (like really bad, be prepared to cringe with you read it), the only good thing that happened out of this situation was Pike, her foster brother, who she found solace in. Now fast forward to her being an adult and her and Pike are still in the world’s most dysfunctional “relationship/friendship”.
I actually didn’t mind Pike all that much in the beginning, I mean its easy to see how two people can bond over such a hard situation to live through, but by the end I felt like banging my head against a wall and screaming, why did I ever think this guy was semi-okay. Also Nina is married to a guy named Bennett and there is absolutely nothing wrong with him, you will like him. You won’t be able to help it. And you will also feel very bad for him.
Declan is the third guy in this story, and he’s really the one I can’t say all that much about. He meets Nina, and he falls into her grand plan. Nina needs him for her plan, but I don’t think she ever expected for him to be the way he is with her or for her to enjoy him in any way. For me there were moments when I liked him like I liked Bennett, and then there were moments where I didn’t like him in the same way I ended up not liking Pike. I’m so torn when it comes to Declan.
In the end I read this book super quite. The writing is good. The storyline will crush you. Again don’t read this if you are looking for sunshine and fairytales, this is not your book. If you like something darker and more rough around the edges, then you should give this book a try, I know I liked it.
