He's the one who got away. She's the one he can't forget…
Mindy McKenzie’s day has gone from bad to worse. First, her ex whisked her kids away to attend his elopement, leaving her alone for the holidays. And then the man whose heart she broke years ago winds up on her doorstep—stranded. Josh Powers still has a body that can make her mouth water, but unfortunately, she’s sure she missed her chance with him.
Waiting out a storm with an attractive woman isn’t normally a bad thing. But when it’s the woman Josh Powers has never been able to get out of his head, it’s pure torture. Especially since he knows she’ll never feel the same way. Mindy is just as sexy and tempting as he remembers, but he can’t risk his heart a second time.
This was my second novella in two days, which is somewhat shocking because I am so not normally a fan of the novella. Even better I liked this one just as much as the one I read before it, so that’s a big win in my book.
I think what I was most impressed with about this book is that these characters have a long history with each other, and even though the novella is on the shorter side, I was about to both feel like I had a good grasp of their history as well as emotionally connect to the two of them. Plus you know it takes place during Christmas time, and my obsession with all things Christmas related is well known among my friends and family.
So Mindy has had a rough go of it this Christmas, her ex-husband basically whisks her kids away days before the holiday so they can go to his unscheduled destination elopement. To make it worse her husband also had the kids the previous Christmas, so she is really not feeling the Christmas spirit in the absence of her kids. Enter Josh, a guy from her past, to cheer her up.
Josh and Mindy knew each other when they were younger, and Josh had a big thing for her, only her she was dating the man who would end up being her husband, and their friendship fell apart. So when Josh’s car gets stuck in a ditch right in front of her house, Mindy takes him in to wait for the tow-truck and things are more than a little awkward. Before you know it the sparks are flying, and the chemistry is palpable.
I loved how great the chemistry was between the two of them, and I loved how their time being snowed in really helped Mindy get her Christmas cheer back. I’m a huge fan of people getting a second chance to get things right from when they were younger, and these two people are finally in the right place to give it a go. This was a great, quick, and fun read, I recommend reading it in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, so check it out.
