There ain't a rider that can't be thrown. And large-animal veterinarian Regan O'Connelli was thrown hard when he discovered his fiancée with his best friend. Now he's starting his life over at the Last Chance Ranch, run by the tightly knit Chance clan. But damned if his libido hasn't perked up over the spirited redhead who looks a lot like trouble….
Lily King is the queen of anti-structure. Turns out, that makes running a horse sanctuary a challenge. Regan's help is exactly what Lily needs—not to mention the seriously sexy sparks that are flying between them. Now she just has to convince this fallen cowboy to dust himself off and get back in the saddle…and into her bed!
I was excited about this book, it incorporates two different elements that I really enjoy, animals and the whole western/cowboy theme. I really enjoyed the book from beginning to end.
So Lily, on a whim, and a desire to give back, took over an animal sanctuary (well horse sanctuary), and was completely over her head. I myself, am a complete animal loved, and have been guilty of taken in a broken animal without having a clue as to how much work it was really going to be. But as Lily finds throughout the book, it’s totally worth the time and effort to learn, because the bond she has with these animals is fantastic and she has such pure intentions of doing right by these animals who had no where else to go. I think one of my favorite things about Lily is that while she is a free spirit (gotta love those bright colors), she also recognized that she doesn’t know everything and wants to do the best she can for these animals, even if that means giving up a little bit of that free spirit.
Regan as a male character is definitely someone I enjoyed. Of course he is the token good looking man, but there is so much more to him beyond that. He’s a little bit damaged from a past relationship, but he’s still such a good with such great heart. He’s educated, and cares for animals, and in a man that’s like the perfect combination for me! I also really loved that he has an honesty policy with Lily, that he would tell her everything he was feeling. It was fun watching him catch her off guard sometimes with what he would say, but it was also so great to have a male character just completely be honest with his feelings, I loved that there was no deception in this book.
I liked the secondary cast of characters, they all did a really good job enhancing the relationship that was brewing between Lily and Regan. Also the sex scenes with Lily and Regan and seriously steamy, and pretty well written, which was definitely nice. I really liked the dynamic and chemistry between the two characters, it made the book such an enjoyable read. Easily 4.5 stars for me.
